Timing Issue on 2015 GL450
Good morning. I know very little about cars, so my explanations will be rough. I was experiencing some clicking/knocking noises when I started up my 2015 GL450. It started to get very bad, and finally took it in to dealer. They said there is a timing issue and that the repairs would be $20,000 (parts and labor). The said an alternative would be to replace the engine, which would be $17,000 (reman engine + labor).
I thought the prices were crazy, so took to a different auto shop, and they confirmed diagnosis and pricing.
This seems crazy that an SUV with 125,000 miles needs a new engine, and the cost is $17,000.
The value of this car is probably equal to the cost of the engine replacement bill. I assume this is a bad idea to replace the engine on a vehicle that is 9 years old, but hate to part with it.
I'm open to any suggestions on what to do next.

This is what you need to do. You need to go back and ask either or both of them for detailed Xentry scan printout, which includes all the error your engine through. Since you already paid for diagnostics, you don't need to pay extra (assuming they actually did what you paid for). And then post it here.
