GL63 severe swaying

Hey Crew,

My 2015 AMG was driving fine when this issue started to present itself. Eventually it became severe and borderline drivable. I have a mechanic scheduled for the weekend, but looking to get your thoughts to steer them. Alignment now pulls the left constantly, with medium pressure required to keep her straight. Tires are newer.

Symptoms: Car will randomly swerve to one side while 45 mph+, and will feel highly unstable bringing her back to center. Any throttle input will want to bring the nose to the right, with off throttle bring the nose back left.

Guesses: inner tie rod
active curve
wheel lugs loose
e brake malf
rear brake sticking

TIA!

If you are asking if loose lug nuts could cause this without checking first, you need to take to a repair shop asap.

You have something loose in the suspension. I would jack it up, grab a wheel, and start shaking it to see if there is any play. You can do this one wheel at a time. Your mechanic will put it on a lift and do all four at once. Let us know what you find.

I would eliminate active curve. You can run a static test and the car physically tilts right and left while this is happening. This will change your roll axis noticeably.

I would also most likely eliminate loose lugs though they are easy to check. That usually manifests itself in a noticeable wheel shake.

I’d be looking at a sticking brake caliper, very worn tie rods or worn suspension components. For a problem this sudden, it should be an easy and obvious fine.

Well…

First shop refused to lift it thinking that it was frame damage. Said 99.9% sure it’s salvage.

Second shop found a very loose rear toe alignment brace bolt.

Problem solved 😂
