I'm just checking in with maybe an oddity, I have a 2014 GL350 in North America, first VIN digit is 4, made in Tuscaloosa like I thought all GL were. However, I am working in Poland these days and picked up a late 2012 manufactured GL350, and the VIN starts with WDC, also checked LASTVIN and there is no mention of the USA, Tuscaloosa, etc. WDC would indicate German manufacture. It is a very well optioned GL, AMG Kit, adaptive headlights, "B00 SUSPENSION MEASURES FOR ROUGH ROAD TERRAIN", climate seats, etc. I like it better than my less well optioned 2014 in Canada. If I still own this one in 2028 when the 15 years is up, I'm taking it to Canada
I see no literature anywhere suggesting that MB made the GL in Germany. So what's up with this one? Is this normal?

Pls post photos of the door jamb decal and the windshield bottom VIN.
2014 would not be considered early since they started production two years prior - in Alabama.
I think you're mixing up the vehicles. This one was released 2012-11-15.
Info received elsewhere, this was a pre-preduction model, made by MB Sindelfingen Plant, Germany.
"There were some early salable builds that happened in Germany. If you look at the build sheet (on Lastvin for example) you should see some control codes for whatever pilot phase your car was built for. They were originally used for some testing and possibly press/demo use and then sold after half a year or so and a few thousand miles. They often are very well equipped and/or have odd combinations of options. There are also pilot phase cars that were built in the US but they were a bit later."
This well describes this particular vehicle. It even has a remote Webasto cooleant heater. Anyway, mystery solved. Not every GL was built in Alabama.
Last thing... I am told the VIN start of at least "WDC1668241A" covers the German GL. Just googled this and found several others for sale around Europe. Maybe even a few thousand judging by the range of serials if they are sequential (I have no idea if MB uses every number in a range, seems likely though?). This started when I was getting the vehicle serviced this week and mentioned something to the (very good) mechanic here in Poland about it being Made in USA, and he was like, 'this is made in Germany' and pointed out the VIN. I had no idea.
What is even more peculiar, they built 2017 model years GLS production samples in Germany in and used the same prefix as in 2012. Such as this car... WDC1668241A892389 check lastvin.
