Rattle on start-up
Hello all,
one of my 2015 GL450s has been rattling a litlte on startup for a while (now at almost 140k miles). I took it to have the timing chain tensioners replaced some time ago, but that made no difference. I have taken it to MB and to an Indy place and they quote me $5-6k to fix it. Carmax will give me $7k without the engine issues.
The hypothesis is that the sprockets are loose and, one day, the timing chain may jump and, as the gentleman in the shop said, "it will go bang and then will never go bang again".
Has anyone had to fix this before? Is this really, essentially, a financial write-off now? Partly, I'm asking, because I have two other cars with the same(ish) engine and one of them is starting to rattle a little...
