Transfer case issues
I’m having issues with the TC on my ‘14 450. I had an independent shop tell me I would need a whole new one at the price of $5K, could I just buy a rebuild kit? If so any recommendations?? OE or OEM?
Typical issues , engine "popping" under load especially on steep grade.
Anyone have experience doing it themselves? I know it’s not a rookie job. Thx.

Usually it is just the chain that is stretched and needs replacement. You can buy it on Amazon for around $100. Some people managed to replace it without removing the transfer case.
I went another route - bought a rebuilt one on ebay and sent my old one to the seller for a core refund. So the new one cost me around $1600 if memory serves. An independent shop charged me $700 to replace it.

@mtm: Thanks for the link to https://tcbmwx5.com. I haven't seen this before. It looks like they offer a complete kit for our transfer cases. That's probably the route I'll go when it's my time!
