I took a long test drive in a new GL63 and now realize its not for me. The seat bottoms are sort of like bucket seats with wings, not so comfortable. And while the sound of the exhaust is exhilarating, I would grow tired of it during normal around-town use. I sure wanted to like the GL63 but I'll be ordering a loaded 2017 GLS (when available) instead. That said, I get why buyers gravitate toward the AMG models. Hand-built engines, upgraded suspensions, and those red calipers!

While at the dealership, my son test drove the new C63s. What a beast! That thing wanted to jump out of its own skin. He smiled from ear-to-ear the whole time.

Bump!

So it's fall and the MY16's are rolling and they are GL### and not GLS badged and seemingly not refreshed.

My guess is the refresh will be GLS and will be MY17.

Have to admit, the new AMG GLS 63 is beautiful.

Ordered 2017 last week!!!

Placed my order last Friday, December 4th. That was the first day the order banks were open for the redesigned 2017 gls63 amg. I just did the black with white interior. I REALLY wanted red leather but they cannot do that for the GLS. That is so annoying!!!
Arrival date is late March/early April. Can't wait!!!

Wow I did't know that the 17MY AMG was already available to order, so thanks for the heads up, I'll start the convo with my dealer next week.

After three consecutive L405s (14.5MY, 15.5MY, and current 16MY http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/24-...ml#post1470577) I'm looking to do something different for my next SUV. Does anyone have a link/pdf of the GLS AMG 63 options/colors sheet?

Also, is anyone disappointed that they didn't go full S class on the interior and retained a lot of those clumsy old school analog buttons on the center console?

analog buttons are the best thing, having to scroll thru 14 different screens to accomplish one thing is retarded...yes but still they should have made the rest of the dash and screens S class like, including the Seating, it shouldnt have E class seating
it should have 20 differnt massage settings, and lots of stupid stuff we will never use just because its supposed to be the s class of suvs

It is MB that decided to add an S at the end of the GL nameplate not me. Slapping a new nav screen and calling it a day doesn't make it so. The S class's interior is one of the best in the world (if not the best). The GLS 63, as an equally priced vehicle bearing the S nameplate should imho have it. I'm sorry if that vexes your luddite sensibilities.

For the record massages are awesome.

I went by my MB dealer today to find out the info on the 17 GLS 63,

Here's the GLS documentation: http://docdro.id/2nAipUt

Obviously they don't have any yet but the first round of builds is late March so one could have one as early as April.

I really like the exterior and love the power, but I sat in a new GLE today which has the identical interior that the GLS will have and was not impressed. It wasn't terrible but not worthy of the S nameplate (hence why it resides in an E), and nowhere near as nice as its competitor's interiors ... in today's car market not having a TFT dash display is poor antiquated design. Not ruling it out yet but I came away very underwhelmed with this mid-cycle update.

Clearly, the interior isn't a complete makeover...and I'm not a fan of the Ipad in the middle of the dash.. but, the new color options are pretty nice.

more importantly, some new technology has made it into the car that is cool.
1.programmable drive settings vs. fixed ones that I have in my 15 concerning the transmission, shocks, and shift points. (Dynamic Select)
2.(Collision Prevention Assist) .. I assume that it will stop the car if you don't.. on mine.. it will apply more brake if I have the brakes on myself.. but it won't actually stop the car unassisted.
3.(Magic Vision Control)... some kind of adaptive heated windshield wiper system

Beyond all of this.. I think a used or leftover is a better deal. I bet with 24 months.. some really cool "other" stuff will come out (Hybrid AMG) or similar that will be much more compelling. People should use this midfresh as an opportunity to get a hell of a deal on a current car and wait for the really cool stuff! just my 2 cents.

and on the Range Rover... can I say. that car looks like a refrigerator sitting on wheels (albeit a nice one with a fabulous interior)... but that car is big and ponderous looking.

Some great info in this thread. Thanks!

I am looking to replace my wife's SUV and was toying with the idea of a GL63. The deals don't seem compelling ... yet. Maybe as the GLS launch gets a little closer, the deals will improve. I'd be interested if anyone else has opinions.

I'm considering upgrading my 2014 GL 550 to a 2017 GLS 63, but when looking through the DOG and NetStar, I see no Night Vision option "Night View Assist PLUS". My 2014 has that and I would like to get it on the 2017. Does anyone know why it's not available? Note I don't mean the Night Package, which is a black-out styling option.

I also slightly lament the unavailability of the HUD that the German GLS builders get to specify, but that's okay.

not a huge fan of the refresh
dont like the stick on screen
rear bumper has lost the beautiful A Wing
front lost LEDs and not as agressive
22s look nice but in the midwest is just a bad idea
interior otherwise no different
rear seat headrests look smaller and more comfortable I guess..
and still has same tranny and not really any other big improvements..
the grill and star seem a little overdone
they shudv gotten the big truck emblem from the gen1 x164 GL550

I'm looking for a GL63 to purchase, better to wait for the GLS to come out?

I do like the GL63 exterior better than the GLS63. The GLS63 interior wins though.

Prices are in the $80s and above, seen a few under $80k.

Anyone selling theirs?

Nope.... Not selling. Love my car!

You could always chip your 550 and buy new ADV1 wheels for $12K and enjoy your cash on something else.....
