M157 turbo sounds?

Hello all, just returned to the MB family after a little hiatus with a new GL63. Is it proper that the vehicle has a notable turbo whistle (or whine) when given throttle from low speeds? I thought I had a large truck following me last night when driving with the windows down through 30 mph roads.

I have no other concerns about performance etc, just surprised by the whistle. I realize this is a subjective question however with my S8, the turbos are silent.

And don't be alarmed at the loud pow noise as it shifts up under full acceleration..I think that it's the waste gates letting go... My kids go bonkers over it....go find yourself a tunnel with the sunroof open! (Just don't have your wife in the car... She will think that you are mad for buying such a beast.)

Drive it in AMG Sport II and the shifter in S... This will tighten the steering beyond the AMG Sport I setting... Also gives you higher shift points, plus a little more sportier fuel mapping.
Sometimes in traffic I will go to Sport I as it softens the power delivery just a little.
My wife drives it in Eco mode and doesn't know the difference.

Enjoy your new ride!

I don't hear any whistle or whine with windows up or down in my 14 e63s....

The op's noise doesn't sound normal to me ... Especially if it's a notable sound ...

I'm new to the GL AMG model as well. When I drove an S63 I didn't notice it, but I definitely notice the turbo at low speeds. I must admit I thought it was surprising that the turbos were kicking in at low speed and low throttle, but I suppose in order to move a nearly 8000 lb truck as nimbly as the AMG engine does, it will require a little turbo. . .

I'm still in the break-in period and have only tested the S mode once. Holy cow!! I'm in C mode until I pass 1,000 miles and then I'm letting the beast loose!!
