GL63 longevity appreciation!
We’re looking to buy one pre owned and want to feel comfortable knowing this car will last (assuming regular dealer servicing).
This thread is meant for those of you who own and daily drive the GL 63! Please post your current mileage and if you would buy another one!
I want to see how long these cars last and hear from the owners with the highest mileage.

2014 Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG and 2015 Subaru WRX STi Launch Edition
We actually just sold our 2014 GL63 with around 75,000 miles on it. While the car never left us stranded, we found ourselves at the dealership (we bought the 7 year / 100K Mile ELW before the factory warranty expired) at LEAST once a month. Some of the things that needed to be replaced over the lifetime of us owning the vehicle include the rear hatch latch (three times), the rear hatch control unit, both rear door locks, both rear door soft close motors, an AIRMATIC strut, the windshield wiper reservoir (as well as the nozzles and hoses), as well as some other smaller items and trim pieces. Also of note, we only got 10-15K miles out of the brakes and the brake job is costly. Adding insult to injury, we had a major issue with uneven tire wear causing us to have to replace all four tires about every 15K miles as well.
Having said all of that, if you can afford the recurring maintenance costs and can find one that still qualifies to add the ELW to it, it's probably the most fun you can have on the road and still be able to tow and ferry around 7 passengers. I'm about 50/50 on whether I'd buy another one.

That is some of the best information i could have asked for. thank you for sharing! my wife and i went to the dealer to put a deposit down on their last gls63 they had but it was sold that morning! so we located a GLS550 loaded at another dealer and made the decision to put our deposit down on that vehicle. This is our first Benz ever and we will definitely enjoy it we can already tell. I will also be purchasing the extended warranty. Thanks for the info!

JUST TURNED 60K MILES ON OUR 2014
We bought it used a couple of years ago. we drive it daily. we have had zero repairs in that time. we have just done routine maintenance . oil changes, brake fluid flush, rear brakes and pads. i think the rear rotors and pads were $350 , the sensor was $20 and the fluid for flush was $30. labor was $250 = $650 for rear brakes, and flush which didn't seem too shabby. the distronic intermittently cuts off sometimes , but the mercedes dealership said a rock must have damaged the front sensor. the bumper has to come off for the repair of $2000. other than that , we have slight inner wear on the new tires, but that was solved by a 4 wheel alignment. These things are getting pretty cheap , i would go for it! oh yeah, 15k out of a set of soft performance tires on a vehicle that heavy , does not seem so bad to me. I understand that people have different expectations from their tires.

after 21 months with 35k km with the GLS63, I couldn't be happier with the vehicle. I don't see any other SUV on the market with that much space, power and could handle that well. My experience with the GL/GLS have been amazing for the past 10 years with 3 different GL/GLS. from the old 2008 GL450 (with 280k km) - 2010 GL550 (about 150k km) - to the current GLS63. always reliable, never had any major problem, just always basic maintenance according to the manufacture standard.
For the 63, I had the rear pads replace at 19k km, and just had it replace at 35k km few days ago, it's weird the front pads still pretty thick. 4 tires replaced at 24k km. other than that, just basic service when the car show message for Service.

Just purchased a 2015 GL63. I have a month left on the warrenty and I will be taking it to my dealer to comb through the car to make sure everything is up to specification. Dealer mentioned that for 6k I can get a 2 year factory warrenty if I sign up prior to the expiration of my factory warranty. My 3rd benz so I undertand the service and repair costs. This thread helps give me great food for thought. Hopefully others will offer their experience with the GL63. Thanks

Ive had mine 2 years, it will be 7 years old in June and its currently covered 76k miles, used every day.
It has had both rear struts replaced under warranty a slight leak on the transfer case repaired and a coolant pipe replaced but thats it. Id be honest in saying it feels a little heavy on the front bushes but Ive had it checked 3 times and all are tight so maybe my tyres are starting to give up a bit, only about 3.5 to 4mm. I find it rides best with tyres around 40 PSI all round on the stock 21’s.
Im at the end of the extended warranty and have been thinking long and hard about alternatives, almost going for a 2016 Range Rover Supercharged but just cant seem to pull the trigger, the only thing that I would be trully happy with would be the GLS63 i think.
Nothing sounds, rides and performs like these whilst carrying 7 people (or 5 and my dog in my case) whilst watching TV, gettiing massages, chilled or warmed rear ends and top quality luxury in a complete combo. Sure theres a few with more tech or a bit more modern interior now but they cant do all of the things these vehicles can do, I for one just cant let go of mine even with 76k miles its amazing still.

I have a 2017 GLS63 daily driver with 49K miles. We bought it CPO with 10K miles. Only issue we had was a slightly bad aroma from the A/C system and the dealer reprogrammed the system. My understanding is there is a fan that moves air over the evaporator to help dry things out after the car is shut off and they reprogram the run time for it. Seems to have helped. Other than this, I have replaced rear brake pads twice and front pads one time. I do my own maintenance. For some reason these things go through rear pads roughly every 15K miles. Not a hard job to replace - I'd hate to keep paying the dealer to do it. The wide low profile tires on the AMGs wear out fast. I have another AMG and always use an all season tire as they last longer than the soft sport tires. Routine oil changes and I've also replaced engine air filters and cabin filters. So far it has been great and fun to drive. When purchased as a CPO and they threw in 2 extra years of warranty coverage with no mileage limit so I should be covered until May 2023. Thinking I'll be at 150K miles by then. I have a 2008 GL with 238K miles and things started going out on it around 70K miles (like suspension) so I'm looking forward to some free repairs with this vehicle!
Edited to add: Just looked at my records - rear pads were done at 10,484 when we purchased the vehicle, and I did them at 26,205 and again at 44,696. So the first time I changed them they went about 15K miles but second time we made it about 18K miles.

Couldn't be happier with our 2014 GL63. It's my wife's daily driver. We use it for most of our trips to the Jersey Shore (over 3 hours away), about twice a month. It has about 70k miles. I got an extended MB warranty to 7 years/135 miles. We use it to tow a dual jet ski trailer. Best seats to enjoy extended trips (previous GL350 seats were unbearable). We haven't had any warranty issues that I can recall except for the A/C vents which tend to break (the side to side tab). Only regret was not purchasing a wheel and tire warranty - I thought there wouldn't be an issue given that the tire sidewalls aren't super thin compared to my E63s, but I was wrong. We've had a couple blow outs from pot holes, although I've had 7 or 8 tires replaced on my E63.
OP will be happy with the GL550. Personally, I would always get AMGs if only for the seats.

We love the GL series and this is our second (2010, GL350Bluetec was the first) but at 14000+ miles we needed rear brakes and all we got was excuses from the dealer. Why should any road car need brakes at such an early time.

UNderdog, I just read your post regarding brake wear on the GLS63. I guess there is some solace in knowing ours is not the only one burning thru brakes at an unreasonably quick interval. Dealer charged over $900 for rear brake pads. That too seems excessive.

60k + miles, GL63, original brake pads. I guess it depends on your driving style and conditions. Lots of city driving will yield faster wear. Driving it like a sports car will also wear the brake pads quickly.

I suspect the brake issue in the newer gls63 may be of 2 possible étiologies. Most likely is the computerized braking system. Alternatively is a change in the materials (pads) from prior generation gl63, although I thought the brake components were identical. I am about to put on my 3rd set of brakes at 25k miles, and this time have decided to use aftermarket Zimmerman rotors as well as different pads on the front and rear. Will be interesting to see if there is any difference in longevity. Will report back. 10-15k for a set of pads seems ridiculous.

2018 AMG GLS 63
We bought a new 2018 AMG GLS 63 in September 2018 and have 13,000 miles on it today (10 mo later). It’s my wife’s car for our 3 kids and needless to say, she’s never used sport or sport plus. I did the 1,800 mile service at the dealer as well as the 10,000 mi service A. A month later at 11,500 we got a brake pad warning and I had my indy shop replace the rear pads for $500. A month after that (now) it sounds like an old locomotive when stopping with a horrible brake squeal from the front. My dealership wants $2,800 for front and rear pads and rotors while my indy shop is $2,300.
The rear Pirelli P Zero 285/40/22 are near their wear indicator bars and are $485 each. Ugh, I have a tuned, 600hp M3 with 25,000 miles that simply requires gas...I feel like I made a huge mistake buying this car as I did not do enough due diligence beforehand.

Place 1,500 lbs and put in your M3. Report back how long your brakes last. These cars stop from 60 in a shorter distance than a Porsche Cayman R. Pretty damn impressive for a vehicle this size.

There is no doubt that the brakes are exceptional...just didn’t plan on spending $3,500-$4,000 per year on brakes and tires in addition to the $122,000 to buy the car.

Go to fcpeuro.com and buy f&r Zimmerman rotors. Cost me around $380 total. They have a lifetime guarantee so when they wear out will be replaced for free by fcp. Bought some pads off Amazon, non oem bc brake dust, under 200 f&r total. Indie charges me 1-2 hours of labor to do the work. Cost is maybe 40% of dealership the first time and even less when you don't have to pay for rotors next time. You're welcome.
You think Mercedes is bad, you should see what dealership wants to do my Cayenne turbo s. Yikes.
**I just added up all the receipts. $720 for all parts and labor to do f&r. No squealing or pulsations, nice and smooth. Next time will be $320 since I wont have to pay for rotors. I will happily pay that every 10-15,000 miles to have a fresh set of rotors and pads on a car like this.
