22" vs 23" on a GLS63 (Ride Quality and Fit)

Hi,
Any one here have a 22" or 23" on a 2021 GLS63 AMG?
What's your take on ride quality?
Does 22" show extra spacing between the tire and the body or is it a perfect fit?

Do you feel bumps in town (or NY/NJ) driving in a 23" or the ride is still cushy?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

Well, I have not tried larger wheels on my gl550 or gl63. Tires and proper inflation do make a difference. I have driven many luxury SUVs with larger aftermarket wheels and almost always notice some ride sacrifice when using larger wheels and lower profile tires. Although handling seems to be better.

I test drove the new GLS63 model with 23's and it isn't cushy. They are summer tire only as well (no A/S or snow tires exist at this time). In NY/NJ, with the poor quality of roads, I would expect you feel the bumps and potholes... a lot.

The ride will be rougher no doubt. Larger diameter wheels will also cause worse mileage, increased stopping distances, worse acceleration, etc, etc.

2021 GLS63
I have a 2021 GLS63 with the stock 23"s and I have a set of 22" wheels and winter tires. There is a significant difference in ride. The 23"s are pretty stiff and unforgiving over poor roads. In comfort mode, I don't mind it much and it is still smoother than my 2019 E63 wagon on 20"s but not nearly as comfy as my wife's GLS580 with 21"s and E-ABC. My wife still thinks my 63 rides pretty stiff. If I didn't like the look of the 23"s so much, I would have gotten the 22" wheels for my GLS63.

Hope that helps,
X

RIDE QUALITY

I just took delivery of my 2021 GLS 63 and I ordered the car with the 21" wheels. I am not trying to generate high g forces on a skid pad and the roads here CT as well as NY and NYC are terrible so ride quality is important.
So far the ride is quite comfortable and yet the handling is very responsive. I have no idea what I will do for winter wheels and tires yet. There are no all-season tires for this model car.

I’m picking this puppy up tomorrow as my wife’s daily driver. Again, on 21s. The dealership is ordering another set of winter wheels and tires with pirellis. I’m glad to hear it’s a comfortable ride with the 21s. FWIW, I looked up the specs on MBUSA and even though it says the 21 inch wheels come with all seasons, that’s clearly a lie.

Looking to source a winter wheel/tire set and not having much luck. Which 22" wheels and tires are you running? Thanks!

We did the MBUSA winter wheel/tire package. I was cheaper than doing new OEM wheels and a tire of my choice, just hoping the Pirellis wear out fast. Not impressed with the power vibration, tires vibrate/shake under power above 70mph

Hello, I have two GLS 63 both with 23" wheels. 1 has aftermarket Vossen wheels that are wider than the factory. My other GLS has the factory 23" monoblock wheels. I feel like the GLS with the Vossen wheels handle much better.... Ive had the second sent of Vossen wheels on order for 3 months!!!!
