2013 GL550 and 2015 GL63 AMG
AMG SpeedShift Plus 7G-Tronic in 2013-2015 GL63 (TCT or MCT?)
So, I just upgraded from a 2013 GL550 to a 2015 GL63 AMG with just 57k miles on the odometer. Pretty rough inside (must have had a dog and kids), but it's a "fixer-upper" that I'm excited to clean up and make a real beauty. The exterior and mechanicals are perfect thankfully (including perfect cylinder walls checked via borescope).
My question is regarding the 722.9?? that comes with the 2013-2016 GL63 model (X166.874). I have the data card, and it makes clear that the trans in this model is the 722.905 (G905 TRANSMISSION CODE VERSION 05). However, I've searched everywhere and cannot get a clear explanation on if the 722.905 is a torque-converter type (TCT), or if this "Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic" is a multi-clutch type (MCT). I know that the latter stands for the multi-clutch setup in place of the torque converter in the "Speedshift Plus" transmission info I've found online. However, what I've found online talks about the "Speedshift Plus" being a M-B SL type trans. Strangely enough, the GL550 uses the 236.15 spec (blue ATF 134 FE) and so does the 7G in the GL63. So that doesn't help me discern a difference either.
Anyone have a clear answer or have a link where I can find specifics pointing to what type of 7G transmission the X166.874 GL63 model has?

It'd be nice if a tech or someone would chime in to confirm, but I'd be pretty surprised if they used the MCT in a vehicle that can tow 7500+ lbs. The X167 GLS63 with the 9G-Tronic uses the TCT.

The MCT is a sports transmission not found on the larger SUVs that are meant to tow heavy loads, as said above. The GLE63, GLS63 and G63 all use the TCT for that very reason and same for the GL.
Here's the paragraph from the press release for MY2014, which is the same car as MY2015.

Fuel-Efficient Transmission
The 2014 GL-Class line is equipped with a seven-speed automatic transmission that provides outstanding fuel mileage, responsive driving, quiet operation and high durability. Featuring an advanced torque converter lock-up clutch, the transmission is designed to work best with an advanced, low-viscosity ATF transmission fluid, colored blue instead of the usual red. Together with lowdrag planetary gears, bearings and internal seals, the "FE-ATF" fluid provides low friction and optimal fuel mileage.

For greater efficiency, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7-Speed automatic transmission is equipped with a highly efficient torque converter with centrifugal pendulum vibration absorber, friction-reduced bearings and transmission oil temperature management. Also contributing to reduced fuel consumption are friction-minimized axle drives, the electromechanical AMG speed-sensitive sports steering, optimized belt drive and on-demand control of all auxiliary units and pumps.
