We just picked up a 2016 with the basic sound system (pre-wired for nav). Often we'd like to easily know what direction we are traveling. I can't find the compass. Perhaps I'm blind or do you have to have nav to get it displayed?
Despite what the operating manual says, the 2017 GLA250's rear-view mirror is not equipped with a compass. The hole where the compass button is supposed to be, is left empty and is replaced by the lens of the front passenger light.

I thought as well that the compass would be on the mirror, but in my 2018 it's rather on the central display when in Navi mode (navigation option required).
I have the Homelink option but again compass not on my mirror.

Mine originally didn't have that option at all (code 232--GARAGE DOOR OPENER WITH 284 - 390 MHZ FREQUENCY) and added it. Now I have the mirror and like yours Nav with a compass on a 2017.
So strange they have homelink without compass....and even making you have to choose the option just to have homelink in the first place.
I purchased mine from car-part.com and was from a 2014 CLA.

Historically I've never used Homelink as always had rolling-code type garage door openers and not worth the extra effort to program, rather simply clipping a remote to the visor.
However I do like having a compass so have always shelled out for whatever option provides same (ol' school and not always relying on GPS). Typically an auto-dimming mirror with compass and Homelink is an option. I would prefer the compass on the mirror but Benz in its wisdom ....
