VRTuned Piggyback-Install and Testing
But this past week I tested this VRTuned piggyback pretty extensively
I contacted Jacob from Vivid and he set me up with a great deal.
Install was fairly easy. The boost sensor was a little confusing since there are 2 in the pipe. But my first guess was right. when Vivid emailed me back with pic
This was a newer version and had the power and ground wires that needed to be connected. That went fairly easy as well(see pics)
I power it on with the Jumper Box(to make sure it worked) and then with the VRTuned box. No check engine lights. all was well
Comfort mode felt the same. Sport mode felt smoother. nothing drastic like my C felt with the piggyback. Just smoother and less jerky
the night before I did the install. I filled the tank. and in the Northeast we been in a heatwave. mid 90s high humidity in the day. low 70s high humidity at night.
So my nightly testing was all in similar weather. The extra fuel/weight and high temp in a such low HP car. would probably effect my results and it did
My first night I take her out to my test road. with completely full tank. humid low 70s and make a few runs
0-60 6.05
60ft 2.13
1/8 9.35
MPH 75.3
1/4 14.45 at 98.1
I knew the full tank and weather would effect it. But this much??
Looking back at my results from a month ago. in 58 degree low humidity and 1/4 tank
Bone stock
60ft was a 2.12
1/4 was 14.35@99.1mph
0-60 was 5.95
I didnt think the tune did anything. Keep in mind every tune I ever had was in higher HP performance cars. and the results were drastic
I never realized that a non performance car would react quite different
I ran it the next night and similar results. I did get the MPH up to 99 but it just didnt feel like it was tuned???
My big mistake was also not testing her prior to installing the VRTuned.(like this same week in the heat)
The next night, I tried manual mode and was slightly quicker. because the slow 3-4 shift gets mimimized
I got it down to:
60ft 2.10
0-60 5.83
1/4 14.22 at 99.0
73 degrees high humidity. 3/4 tank of gas
and while quicker then my cooler weather/low gas baseline. It didnt seem like much
so yesterday I yanked the box. Installed the jumper and just came back from my test road
Temps were 73 high humidity(very consistent all week)
I ran her with letting her shift and me shifting
First Run-Letting her shift-NO tune
0-60 6.12
60ft 2.13
1/8 9.40 at 75.2
1/4 14.52 at 97.3
Second Run-Me shifting at 6k-NO tune
0-60 6.00
60ft 2.12
1/8 9.30 at 75.9
1/4 14.40 at 97.7
So what have I learned? Pretty basic. And all things I should have known. But I never played with a car like this. Fighting for tenths
small low HP engines are heavily effected by environmental and weight(gas levels differences) and it makes sense.
also a tune for them will only do so much. smaller HP to start with = smaller HP gains after
I am sure it will beat my original baseline once weather cools and I have less gas.
Maybe even a 13.999999999999 at 100mph is in its future
The VRTuned Piggyback is worth it. It has a lower cost then other Vivid Piggybacks.
It gives you a few tenths of added performance in a platform that has no performance designation to begin with
It smooths out driving in Sport(that alone is worth it) and who know about gas mileage. No chance for a long trip yet
If this thing can rip off a high 13 in cooler weather. I will be all smiles.
Considering the super low cost of this vehicle.
It basically did a mini rock climb up and down an 1800ft mountain
no bottoming out. never got stuck. no damage at all
it averaged 27.8 mpg driving around 80-90mph on a long trip
it is very quick for what it is. especially if it can get into the 13s(stock mustangs, Camaros and vettes in the 90s only ran mid to low 14s!)
and I am assuming it will be decent in the snow. it is great in the heavy rain and mini rock climbs!
and another HUGE factor for me was the ****ty NJ roads. 3 flats in 1 year on my last car!!
This little SUV/Car or crossover just drives right over the largest potholes and keeps on going
I am more then impressed with my lil GLA
I will update this post with results when the weather cools
Contact Jacob at Vivid Racing. His contact info in the other post.
Well worth the cost!

Temp was 71. Humidity 79%
But gas was a tiny bit above half tank
Used Manual mode. Brake torqued to 1900
Let car shift 1-2 and paddle shifted the rest
0-60 5.70
60ft 2.10
1/8 9.12 at 78.0
1/4 14.07 at 100.3
I am pretty sure high 13s will not be a problem when the weather cools off
Cooler night. Lower Humidity
64 degrees. between half and quarter tank of gas
Ran it a few times. Cars seems to make more power.
best 0-60 time
First gear revs pretty fast now
But the extra power is wrecking havoc with the trans. It slow shifts. on and off
All runs have different delays. No consistency
Think it will have to be a lucky/perfect trans shifting day to get a high 13.
I tried rolling out. brake torquing in Manual and Auto
Best was:
0-60 5.67
60ft 2.12
1/8 9.15 at 78.0
1/4 14.07 at 101.0
3 to 4 shift was very slow.
I couldnt leave with it fully brake torqued. It would spin/chirp tires then bog down killing 60ft time
Had to hold brake, floor gas, as RPMs rounded 1300-1400, let the brake go
0-60 5.63
60ft 2.13
1/8 9.10 at 78.8
1/4 14.03 at 101.5
so close!!
I have been away. And tune was off the car for dealer visit(non related)
But a few months ago. There were a few cooler nights. 58
and car finally did go into the 13s
0-60 5.50
60ft 2.08
1/8 9.03 at 78.3
1/4 13.95 at 100.7
I had to drop it off at the dealer. So the tune came off and I was traveling so I didnt bother
I was home this week and the weather has been freezing. I froze my *** off and reinstalled the tune this afternoon.
Just came back from a few frozen runs
NO way to brake torque it. Road is cold. and it spins, then bogs(traction control?)
resulting in terrible 60fts
This low HP car needs 60ft or its a bad run.
I basically had to roll into the gas. so it didnt happen
first decent run:
0-60 5.52
60ft 2.07
1/8 9.02 at 79.1
1/4 13.88 at 102.2
second run:
0-60 5.42
60ft 2.05
1/8 8.97 at 79.0
1/4 13.85 at 102.1
I think that is all she has.
Not bad for a little hooptie. Unless I can get it to leave brake torquing, its not going to pick up ET
slightly under half tank. took the bag of ar500 plates out. 28 degrees
