Test drove the GLA45 AMG

My dealer invited me out to see the new GLA 45 AMG. I got a chance to test drive it. They threw me the keys and said see you in a bit. I jumped in and took off. Tried all the transmission modes, traction control modes and put her to the test. Since I have an Edition 1 on order and have bought several cars from this dealer they know me well and like to look after me. I have to say I was a little nervous about this vehicle since I ordered one sight unseen and paid a deposit. Well I am SO HAPPY I did order one. The car is amazing! Surpassed all my expectations. The little hesitation of the throttle is the only thing I don't like. You step on the gas and there is a little delay. I have a C63 currently and there is NO delay with his car. I'm not convinced the traction control turns 100% off either. 30 days until car car arrives. Let the countdown begin.

And you didn't take any pics? What color was your demo?

Tks! Another black one....seems like the initial batch is mostly black. Do you remember the sticker on this one?

Keep us updated and post pics in 30 days. I do like the black with the silver lip. Congratulations.

Will do. The one I have coming in is the Edition 1 so it should look a lot more aggressive than this one. I will update with photos in about 4 weeks.

I drove a white one over the weekend w/o out the suspension package. Sticker was just north of 60k.

I am really curious to how rough the suspension package makes the ride and how the GLA performs without it. I thought the GLA45 AMG without, rode better than my CLK55. If the suspension package, gives it an lil more edge without being jarring, count me in.

With performance numbers so close to the CLA, I am really leaning towards the GLA now. I test drove the CL250 4matic awhile back, (CLA45s are nearly impossible to come by not ordered) and I was more comfortable in the GLA. I really expected the increased height and weight to really nerf the 45's performance, well done AMG!

Edit: Just noticed the curb weight of the GLA45 is only 47lbs more than the CLA, most likely because the GLA is 7inches shorter?

This one had the stiffer suspension:

I'd drive it first, if all possible, before ordering or buying.

And if I opt for the 20% stiffer suspension, will be motivated to add a tune.

I agree, but it took me over a year to be able to test drive any 45. Really curious on cost/benefit of the suspension package.

For me, a tune will be added either way.

If you know a tune will be added, I'd add the package, because the 20" wheels are also tuned for the stiffer suspension.

The thing I'd pay attention to is whether there is enough rubber for the 20" rim (I guess so for the GLA) that I don't have too much risk of cracked rims.

The susp package comes with 20s on the 45 that look very nice, tire choices in 235\40 are limited though and non existant for winter/all seasons so requires different wheels for that

245/40 should work.
