Tire wear

Hi Folks,

I have a GLA45 and I seem to be chewing up the outside edges of my tires. I had an alignment done just before swapping over to my brand new winter tires and noticed they were also getting chewed up. I now have a brand new set of Pilot Sports on the car and will keep an eye on them. Is this something that the GLA45 just does?

Thanks,
Ed

This is probably a silly question but are you keeping your tires properly inflated> Tires low on air will get chewed on the outer edges like you're describing. You can check the MB recommended tire pressures on the drivers side door sill.

Not a silly question at all.. The answer is yes, I check them weekly and top them off as needed.

The alignment chart the dealer gave me had all four corners green. The winter tires were on for maybe 2,000 miles max and you can absolutely see where the outer edges are getting worn away. I am about to do a 3000 mile trip to the east coast and back. I will take some before and after pictures of each wheel..

Make sure you check your tire pressures before you drive the car on a particular day. You won't get accurate readings if you check your tire pressures after the car has been driven.

Do point out the fact / reality that when you are reassuringly told “will carry out a Full Front and Rear Wheel Alignment” ... all that can be altered is only Front and Rear Toe (directional) adjustment:

On completion followed up by the statement (because of broad alignment parameters ) ... “is now within factory specs”. Frustrated with the need then to go from one dealer or alignment shop to the next - or continually changing tire brands.

Situation has come about through cost cutting and the ever increasing speed of auto assembly lines.

There is no longer Camber, Caster to adjust tire contact angles. Spread load more evenly.

KMAC has specialized in resolving such OEM suspension short comings since 1964 !

Front and Rear kits providing “ongoing” adjustment to cater for other then showroom height conditions.

High cambered roads, altered height through load carrying or lowering, fitting wide profile tires, curb knock damage.

W176, 245/246, C117, X166 we manufacture a Total System:
Front “replacement” Top Strut Mounts. Camber and also Caster adjustable (from engine bay).

STAGE 2 (Street/Race) #506116-2L $545 (Both sides).
STAGE 3 (FULL Race) #506116-3L $545 (Both sides)

KMAC patented design. Biggest (and quickest) adjustment system. Massive 22ᵐᵐ I.D spherical self align bearings with 3 ⅜” diameter fully seated Thrust bearings for steering loads.

Manufactured not from steel or soft billet alloy but very highest grade 7075 aircraft aluminum.
Fit with OEM diameter springs or all popular brands of Coil overs (60 to 70ᵐᵐ I.D).

NOTE: 2018-2021 W177, 247, C118
STAGE 2 (Street/Race) #506216-2L $545 (Both sides)
STAGE 3 (FULL RACE) #506216-3L $545 (Both sides)

Front kit (Camber only) also manufactured (all except W177, 247, C118)
Lower strut mount Camber bolts (twice the adjustment range of weakened downsized crank bolts).

P/N #120216 $110 (Both sides)

REAR CAMBER ADJUSTMENT (ALSO FOR THE 1st. TIME)
#506126K $480 (Both sides)
Includes “extra” Toe adjustment to compensate for the new Camber settings.

Replaces the lower arm inner bushes (unlike upper arm adjusters retains important clearance top of tires to outer fenders). Includes bush extraction tool allowing fitment without arm removal.

KMAC patented design - precise single wrench adjustment, easily accessible accurately (under load) direct on alignment rack.

TRACK DAYS:
(in the pursuit of front row of the grid lap times).

1. #506128L $480 (Both sides)
Rear trailing arms “front” mounts.

Monoball / 2 Axis. Dramatic improvement - less rear end flex, wheel tramp, loss of traction. Enhanced cornering stability by containing side loads / G forces.

The unique KMAC Mono ball / 2 Axis design eliminating the OEM soft rubber, air voided bushings yet still allowing bushings to travel through their required arc without binding, locking up.

2. #506128-1J $380
Rear uprated Bushings for the 6 multi link arms.
Also significant improvement to rear end flex, tramp, loss of traction. Especially when applying power to lane change / overtake.

Delivery $40 one kit ($20 each extra). PayPal, Visa or M/Card.

Longest established / most experienced manufacturer (Worlds largest range) front and rear adjuster kits - Audi to Volvo.

Hi @K-Mac

Thanks for the promo, I might actually do that if I destroy another set of tires on this trip...
