GLB or GLC?

Hi All

I'm expecting my second kid in April (first one is around 2) and looking to upgrade to a SUV. I'm just wondering what are the main differences of the GLB vs the GLC? It seems to me they aren't a lot differences between these 2, except for the styling. Unfortunately the GLB has not arrived in my country (Taiwan) yet, so I've not been able to test drive it. The GLB will also come with a 1.3L turbo engine here, instead of the 2L

For those who got the GLB, what made you choose it over the GLC?

My wife needed a new car so we went and looked at both the GLA and the GLB. We came away with the GLB. If you are moving to a SUV for more room forget the GLA. It has no room. The GLB is huge in comparison.

The GLB has more room. It has a better control center. It feels like a bigger and better put together car.

I have a Porsche Cayman and I actually look forward to driving the GLB.

Congrats on the new baby!

We also compared the GLB vs GLC (you can find alot of comparison videos on youtube) in the end we chose the GLB because
1. New design language with the newer interior with LED screens
2. Bigger cargo area for our stroller and bags
3. more leg room in the GLB
4. It looks really nice! Like a mini GLS almost like a new version of the old GLK (which we liked when it came out)
5. Price it was cheaper for us compared to a similar spec'd GLC

Hope you find this helpful! The most important thing is to drive both and see what you like

A gaggle of MB's
There are Taiwan "auto agent's" that can search for a low mileage pre-owned GLC in the US for you - can save you significant NT$.

In my causal observation, I find the GLC more luxury feeling than the GLB. The GLB appears to be a watered-down Mercedes

Yeah the GLA is definitely out of the question. But from what I read online, the GLB is actually a tiny bit bigger on the inside than the GLC

Just wondering if you also test-drove the GLC? If the GLB is a good car to drive for a Porsche driver, I wonder how you feel about how the GLC drives?

Thanks for these useful points. Yes, I also like the how the GLB looks more than the GLC. The extra leg room might be important since we are gonna fit 2 car seats in the back

Unfortunately the GLB has not arrived in Taiwan yet, so I can't test drive it. From what I hear, they are gonna hit the showrooms in May or June. Not sure if I'm able to wait that long

Yes, these "agents" are quite popular here, especially for Mercedes for some reason.

But I also want the MBUX system, which means I need to go for the 2020 model year

I would agree.
GLC , in my opinion, is a more luxurious car and nicer drive. But then I drive a GLC so I suppose I am probably biased!

My wife moved from an E300 to the GLB and I don't put the GLB in the "watered-down Mercedes" category. The GLB is not as luxuriously appointed as the GLC but it is not watered down. In fact, I drive a Porsche Macan and there are some things on the GLB that I would like to have on my Macan.

"Not as luxuriously appointed ".....isn't that exactly the point being made!

Mercedes 2020 GLB350 4Matic
I test drove both the GLC and the GLB and got the GLB about 3 weeks ago.
Here are my thoughts. I personaly like that I could add lots of options to my GLB. I test drove both the day I bought my GLB. I liked the GLB more. I am female and am only 5'2". In the GLC I felt like I was in the windshield because of where I had to put my seat to drive. I felt the GLB was more roomy inside. I liked to new full one long screen of the GLB where as the GLC was still 2 parts. The GLC did not look as updated. Why they did not give it the new long one piece screen is strange. For me, I felt the GLB was more comfortable for me to drive. I traded in my 2015 GLK350 4Matic. To me, The GLB feels like my GLK. Maybe a little more air noise and lower to the ground. I lie that the GLB has Comfort and Sport mode to choose to drive in. I love the new Mbux system. I have post here where I show my car and what I got on it (came on it).

One thing to take into consideration is that the GLB is a new model. GLC has been around for 4 or 5 years. GLB might end up being in for warranty issues and service longer than a GLC.

Isn't the GLC a RWD platform and the GLB a FWD one? That is a huge difference.. and a plus to the GLC. But I do like the exterior look for the GLB. I actually dislike the dual long screen look of new Mercedes.

Yes, the GLB has a transverse (east-west) powertrain, and the GLC has a longitudinal (north-south) powertrain.

The GLB and GLC are not really SUV's. They are crossovers. Both offer a small engines (sub 2.0L) and limited space. GLB is also base FWD as the GLC base is RWD

We were between an Audi Q3 and Jaguar E-Pace for my wife's next car. We happened to come across a GLB at our local auto show and the rest was history. There was a GLC right next to the GLB, so it was a good comparison. I think the GLC has a tad more luxury than the GLB, but with that being said, IMO, the GLB is the better family car. The GLB offers more room and even has a third-row option. Granted, it's just for kids, but it can be nice to have.

^^ Those are the differences between the GLB and GLC exactly. Mercedes is hoping it is seen just that way. We will see how badly the GLB has hurt the GLC next month when the 1qtr sales come out.
