2nd Row - Head rests (Newbie)

Hey Gents,

New to MB, have the GLB with the AMG and 3rd row option. Interior is the black with the red stitching. Giving as much info just in case it makes a difference. I cannot fully put down the outer rear head restraints. They stop just before going fully down. Is this normal? I thought I'd be able to lower them all the way down so that none of the head rest post is showing. Currently stops with a 2" gap. Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have the non-AMG line GLB and the head restraints don’t go fully down for me either. Can be annoying when trying to fold the seats down

I went to the dealership and checked out another GLB (non-AMG) and it didn't go down also. But I've seen review videos where they were fully down. Flaw maybe?

Same issue. I don't like how it lessens my rearview area. Has anyone tried cutting two more notches? We might need to cut off two inches at the bottom of the posts as well.

Thinking this might be a good option. Never thought to do that.

Well, that didn't work. Any more ideas? I can't visualize how the headrest is stopped in the seat. I was thinking it was just a physical stop, the posts hit the structure of the seat.. Nope. I cut off 3". No change.

That's as low as they go? Mine sit lower than yours at they're lowest point.

I was able to modify my rear headrests to go down all the way. I filed the flat part of the notch (on the left headrest post in the above pic - right near the sharpie line) with a half-round file so it's more like the notch on the bottom of the right post - tapered on both the top and bottom instead of just the bottom. I could see a pin down inside the seat that was engaging on the flat part of the notch. After filing the notch the headrest now still stops and engages at the same point, but with a little more pressure it moves the pin out of the way and continues the rest of the way down. I just figured this out last night - sorry I didn't post before the cuts were made....

On the left or upper post in the pic above the notch that is immediately below or exactly where the sharpie line is the one I modified. I basically removed material above the sharpie line so it is a mirror image of what is below the sharpie line so it can displace the pin and continue down rather than being caught on the flat edge. I'll try to post a pic sometime this weekend if I am able.

I was able to get the 2nd row headrests all the way down with out modifying them. I learned this from another forum. While holding the button in, slap the top of headrest in a downward motion and they will go all the way down. Not sure why this works, but it does.

Gents (and ladies if any),

I literally just raised the headrest as far as it would go without it falling off/out, then held the button in and jammed it all the way down forcefully. Went in no problems. No mod. Just a little brute force. Hope this helps.

Recently did this modification myself in my new 2021 GLB, I had to use an iron file to file the left leg of the chrome (the leg opposite of the hand switch) at the lowest notch to get it go down. I looked into that left hole, there’s a metal cross bar that catches the notch preventing it from going down all the way. So the goal is to smooth that notch so that small cross bar pin does not latch on to that notch. Rear view mirror visibility is so much better when the headrest is all the way down

Easy.

Just Pull the latch from the back seats.
move forward a little bit the seat and before the seat goes all the way down. Push the button on the headrest and slap it. Now put it back again.

Now do the same with the other side.

After reading this I tried my 2021 GLB35, the button on the side of the headrest let's you adjust the tilt angle, if you want to adjust the height there is a button right at the top of the seat where the metal rods insert, just press and adjust the headrest. The button is inconspicuous, it's a strange design but it is what it is.

No it is for safety testing. The rear head restraints have to be able to protect an adults head.
I was working for BMW when they got dinged because the headrests went too far down. Had to recall a bunch of cars and put in a stopper so the head restraints wouldn't go all the way down.

Guys just press the button on the black circle where the metal part goes in. That's how you adjust headrests on all cars.... : smh
