Looking for recommendations for the GLB 250 Oil type to use. I've seen mention of 0W20 for this model. In recent years, I've always used the 0W40 Mobil One European blend, but not sure if that is a recommended oil for this model.

On older MBs it was indeed strongly suggested to use Mobil 1 0W40. Actually the instruction was to use oil that complies with MB formulation 229.52. And since Mobil 1 was the only oil with that compliance everybody was using it. I did on my ‘04, ‘05 and ‘06. The GLB does not call for Mobil 1 but it says use a oil that complies with MB 229.51, 229.52, 229.61 or 229.71 suggesting that 229.71 would be the best. Castrol Edge DEXOS below is one of the few available with 229.71 and it comes only in 0W20. At Walmart for $27.

 

Good question. I was using 0-W40 on my C63 until I switched to 5W-40. My owners manual doesn't specify.

 

Mobil 1 Euro has 229.3 & 229.5 approvals. It is not appropriate for the GLB250 which is designed for low SPAsh engine oils.

When I had my service A done at the dealer they put 6L of 5W30 oil, spec 229.52.

Just to clarify. The manual states 5.5 liters of oil, the dealer charged for 6L. Which makes sense.

 

My C63 takes 9L. I'll take 5.5-6 gladly

 

Vlad, do you know if they used MB oil or another brand? My understanding is the MB oil is rebadged Mobil 1.

 

It does not clrearly states, but my guess it is MB as they provide part number.

I think they may use multiple suppliers. Petronas makes a Mobil 1 clone and the logo is on this bottle of 229.5 oil.

 

Thanks for the info. When it comes time for my 2nd year maintenance, December, whether I change the oil myself or not, I will go with the 229.52 spec.

5W-30 I think is best for my area. It looks like the Mobil 1 oil is an ESP type, 5W-30.

Plenty of choices of European oils also, Ravenol, Motul, Liqui Moly.

 

Mercedes has a handy online chart listing engine oils by the MB spec. "Only listed products are tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz."

2021 GLB 250 2L gas engine.
I did my own oil and filter change recently and used Mercedes Benz 5w30 oil spec 229.52 (most advanced oil according to MB) I believe the max oil capacity is 5.5L and not 6L.

 

I am sure you are correct. What I meant is that dealer charged me for 6L.
