The engine behaves weird in hot weather

Hey there, so it was quite hot yesterday here in the DC area. It was close to 100F with high % of humidity. I had a little bit of sprit driving and all of sudden the GLB 35 would want to move. I kept downshifting from 7th (65-70mph) to 5th or 4th, the SUV barely accelerate. It felt like it was in limp mode. The oil temperature got to 238F at one point. I cooled down the engine a little bit then try again, it drove fine. I suspect there's a heat surge which causes this. Has this ever happen to any of you? Thanks.

Jon

I have a GLB 35 and live in Dallas, TX. I haven’t experienced this issue in 100+ days with high humidity, I will keep an eye on my transmission and oil temps, was this a one time occurrence?

So far, yes it has only been once. I really don't want to experience again as it was very scary on the highway. It was literally crawling when I put the pedal to the metal.

I have experienced the car going into what I consider limp mode when stopped at a light. Car is in comfort mode, upon acceleration the car simple doesn’t move. After a few seconds it starts to moving again. The delay is enough that people are hitting the horn behind me (and almost got rear ended one time). I have been able to avoid this by keeping the car is sport mode. I’ve been putting it off taking it to the dealer. I assume this will be a “can’t reproduce customer complaint” from the dealer. So I will have them look at it when I get my annual service done.

That sounds like a turbo lag to me and yes even the 35 isn't that responsive in Comfort mode. Anyhow, I am heading to the dealer tomorrow and I bet you they will say "can’t reproduce customer complaint". Hell, I made videos before for other cars and it didn't help....

Keep us posted if you get anything beyond the generic response from the dealer!! Good luck!
