Question of GLB size feel versus GLA

Hello GLB Forum. I had a 2022 GLA ordered and cancelled yesterday when I was told that the power lift gate has been deleted for a manual spring-loaded lift gate (supply chain issues). That was a deal breaker since this is for my elderly mother who cannot physically close the lift gate, so I cancelled the order.

I studied the specs, and it appears that the GLB and GLA have the identical width, the GLB is only 2 inches higher, and 8.8 inches longer. From the specs, it really isn't that much bigger, but optically, it looks so much larger. Has anybody driven both cars and/ or does the GLB feel larger, like the GLC (which is my car). I plan on testing the GLB assuming I can make an appropriate build with not too many supply chain deletions, just trying to get some feedback. Thanks!

I was in a dealer showroom recently, and the rear (side) door of the GLB is huge. Not sure if that is a good thing/bad thing for your mother. The longer GLB may be more difficult to park. What is her current or most recent vehicle?

She currently has a 2016 Audi Q3. I was thinking of staying with the 2022 Audi Q3 which grew another 3 inches, but I can't get over the inside is looking more like a VW.

The GLB has a 9" longer wheelbase than the Q3. The GLB will be noticeably different to park compared with the Q3. Depending on your mother's driving confidence a vehicle closer in size to the Q3 may be helpful.

i have driven both the GLA & the GLB. I bought the GLB because we needed seating for 7 in as small a package as possible.

My driving impressions:
GLA - Drives like a car. It fits just about anywhere my C250 fits. It has better forward visibility than a sedan as the seating position is higher.
GLB - It’s nimble for an SUV. But it’s clearly an SUV, especially when backing because that 8.8 inches longer than the GLA is nearly all between the driver and the rear window. It’s standard with a good backup camera and can be optioned with parking assist which may help.

The GLB is very nearly the same size as your GLC. Even the GLA is slightly larger than the 2016 Q3.

I strongly suggest that you bring your mother for the test drive of the GLB. Don’t settle for the “spin around the block” ride. Call your dealer and make a test drive appointment. Tell them you’ll need about 2 hours and let her take it to places where she will need to maneuver it - parking lots, shopping mall, doctor’s office, home.
