Thanks but I’m. Almost certain that I wasn’t touching the mouse as when I drive I always have both hands on the wheel but if it happens again I’ll remember to see if I inadvertently touched the mouse or more importantly check if my wife did as she’s invariably in the car with me

Literally anything can activate the mouse pad. I have had a charger cord drag across and send the radio down to the end of the list of saved stations.
Placing my cap on the console sends it into apoplexy.
The car has MBUX voice control. Would not miss the pad if it weren’t there.
