I just returned from getting my GLB35 from the dealer after its 2 yr checkup. I asked them to rotate and balance the tires. I thought the ride was a little bumpier than usual, looked down to see my tire pressures were 45 front and 44 rear, I drive on Michelin all season 255 40 ZR20 tires. I do not carry entire adult male soccer teams in my car. My gas cap just says 35 psi for 240 kPa tires. Am I incorrect in wanting somewhere in that vicinity instead of in the mid 40's for my pressure?
Because they do not know what they are doing. Every time I go dealer for service they pump tire pressure to 42psi and when I get home I have to reduce to what gas filler door states.
Most probably they went with the passenger side sticker pressures for max loading capacity of the car. They did same with mine on 2nd year service, even putting more air in the rears as a rear wheel car needs. They are trying to save time and check the box.... In the first year another dealer shop did the opposite with 21" tires as I was complaining about the harshness and they lowered less than min pressure required. Then I had couple curb rashes right away at the manhole covers... Even at Costco, certified Michelin installers were filling according to the passenger door recommendations. I told them to follow the gas door. Still I went next morning and adjusted the tire pressures as morning temps are cooler...
I keep the winter tires at 38psi for 20" due to potential pothole damage, but I lowered 19" A/S's to 35psi/33psi. So far the car had no problems with the lower psi except it looks like the tire rubber is eroding faster. It might be that the 21" AS's are specified for Tesla, might be a harder tire... The ride is much better with 19's, so I might be driving more freely also. If you haven't damaged your rims with the lower psi, just keep it at recommended minimums from gas door.
As you start driving the inside tire temperature will rise, so will the tire pressure. You can select tire pressure display on your driver screen middle space and see how the tire temp and pressure changes as you drive.
I understand all that. One of my screens on dash always shows air pressure. I carry a mini compressor in my car, and I read the gas cap cover. I’m not the one in error, was just feeling frustrated by dealer. I grew up in the tire business, my father judged my dates by their tires, whether they were retreads, what kind of wear was on their tires.
