Mercedes GLB 250 2021 4Matic
Exclamation Engine and Filter Oil and Engine Air Filter

Hi all ,

I am looking for Engine Oil for my Mercedes Benz GLB 250 2021 4Matic and I am confusing between Geinue Engine Oil from Mercedes or Mobil 1 Advanced Full Synthetic Motor Oil 5W-30, 1-Quart/6-pack ( https://www.costco.com/mobil-1-advan...100169695.html ), which one is better ? and I also looking for the best Engine Oil Filter and Engine Air Filter because too many different branches on market now . Should I use OEM parts? I am living in California. Thanks all for your advices

Mercedes branded oil is not necessary. Your dealer may not even use it. You need a low ash oil that states Mercedes Approval 229.51, 229.52, 229.61, or 229.71 on the container. Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30, for example, has Mercedes Approval 229.51 & 229.52. Low ash is critical to avoid clogging the particulate filter. There are many others available, just check the container for the approval. The Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W-30 is not low ash.

The factory oil filter is about $18 from the dealer, so not very costly to begin with, but if you look at what’s in the box, it’s a Mann HU 711/6z which is about $13 on Amazon. I use one of those 2. Don’t buy cheap oil filters.

The air filter only requires changing every 50,000 miles unless you operate in very dusty conditions. Just get a major brand that cross references to your SUV. I plan on ordering whatever Mann air filter is listed for my GLB at the next service.

Thanks Odd Piggy for your advice. I bought Mobil 1 with an Approval of 229.51 from dealer but I heard that Mercedes-branded oil will have some special chemical that is better for the engine than the other brand and 5W-40 will be better and help the engine will be last longer. Is it true?

5W-40 Mercedes oil is fine if you want to use it. But there is nothing special about it. The last time I checked it was made by Petronas (Malaysian national oil company) which exclusively uses ExxonMobil processes to produce lubricants. So it’s basically Mobil 1. If you live in a very hot area, API 40 viscosity will thin a little bit less at high temperatures, but these late model engines (as opposed to 20+ years ago) are designed with much tighter clearances that are fine with API 30 viscosity.
