Interior smells like old moldy crayons
For the past month I have noticed a funky smell in my car. I've wasted a lot of time spraying Lysol and the like, throwing little packets of charcoal here and there, and just going around smelling and trying to figure out where it's coming from - all with no success.
Yesterday i found the following post on this site (I should have searched all forums earlier)
C-Class Interior crayon smell removed. Here's how.
Seems the smell is from the foam under the interior carpet. I haven't checked it out myself yet. I'm thinking I should take it to the dealership to complain, but not sure they'll do anything. Anyone ever have this issue as well?

I noticed that I always get burned oil smell after annual dealer service. I guess they spill a little bit of oil when they remove oil filter, and smell gets into the cabin at ignition, until it fully burns out.
As far as foam, my car never had any bad smell associated with it. All foams are off gassing to a degree, however it is very distinct smell. If you ever ordered and unpacked a rolled up foam mattress, you would know it.

My E Class and C Class both developed objectionable smells due to mold build up in the A/C drains. The odor was like when you have a long forgotten vegetable in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator. Both cars had it at only a few years old and had to be treated more than once.
I haven’t had that problem with my 2021, but maybe that would be a good place to start looking.
