The local dealer here in Loveland, CO charged me $1,100 for an oil change & brake flush!

LOL - I made a terrible desision at a Dealership....so, the admin at this THIRD PARTY website needs to delete the user? Well at least when you wasted the money something got "flushed"......LOL It was your money!

 

Oil Change - 75 Dollars including filter
Full Brake Flush - 70

Diy for the win.

Going to a super expensive alternative is a choice, but if you make that choice, thats a you thing. I have no defense of crazy prices... just dont understand people making crazy choices....and complaining.

2021 GLB250 90,000 miles oil & filter:
Liqui Moly 5W-30 + Mann filter $81; brake fluid flush $90.

2023 GLA250 (same drive train in a smaller package): 35,000 miles A Service + brake flush:
Oil, filter, wiper blades, brake flush $460.

The only dealer service estimate I have ever gotten on the GLB that approached $1100 included 60k transmission service (which I had done at an indie shop for a lot less).

 

MB dealers continue to lower the morals and ethics bars on themselves. Not surprising. It is a failed brand that foists garbage onto the automotive market. Their dealers are morally bankrupt stoolpigeons. .

$1,000 for a 4-cylinder oil change is laughable. Porsche dealers charge $1,000 for V6 and V8 oil changes and owners complain, rightly so.

 

@chassis Simple solution. See, as we are in a Consumer Economy...do not buy their cars! Easy fix! From there, if you do (or did)...you have options for service. You can go to a dealership, you can go to an Indi, hell...you do not need to get your car serviced at all. Someday your yard can look like you live on an Indian Reservation in Utah for the collection of broken down jalopies in the yard. :-)

Clearly the service model is a functional one as EVERY BRAND of cars has the same model for sale/service of the vehicles they represent. Am I a huge fan of dealerships? No, I had to go argue with one yesterday pertaining to a staff members Hyundai (that needs a recall engine). Someone will buy a car from a dealership. That dealership will have a service department. That dealership will have assistants, porters, valet drivers, janitors, cleaning staff, electricians and plumbers. That dealership will proved a good living for a pretty good number of our peers....

Last weekend the kid and I put new oil cooler and filter housing into his C class. We did not pay anyone for service, took about two hours of my time and we enjoyed ourselves working on the car as a family (mom was also involved). So, we as consumers just need to figure out what is important to us, our time and our dollars.

 

They aren't called stealerships for nothing, shop around or DIY.

These kinds of threads always make me scratch my head. Some guy takes his entry level Mercedes to a dealership for service. Doesn't seem to read the estimate they are made to sign and agree to the cost. Goes ahead with the service at an inflated cost, then comes here to tell everybody that they are quitting the brand. Mind you, not that particular dealership, but the brand as a whole. No consideration given to the fact that dealerships are independent businesses that may inflate their costs. No thought about maybe taking it to an Indy next time, or in general do their due diligence first about the cost of ownership and research where they might get more reasonable pricing. There are lots of options. Places like FCP Euro sell parts at much lower cost than dealerships and have lifetime replacement warranty, so you can source parts yourself and take them to an Indy that you have a good relationship with for example. My dealership wanted something like $7k for a full brake job on my AMG. I got the same job done by sourcing my own parts and have my Indy install them for less than a third of that. Gotta be smart about your choices and decisions as said above. OP, when you buy something, do you just buy it at the first place you walk into, or do you do price comparisons first and try to get the best deal? This is no different.
