Smartphone Integration System - CarPlay

Hey guys, I've just placed an order for the new GLC 250d and I am very excited. Production date was set for April 2016 and delivery on May 2016.

I have been checking ever since the Mercedes Benz (German DE) website, and the configuration for each car.

What I have realized is that the following cars come with the optional Smartphone Integration System, which allows you to connect and operate your smartphone, iphone (CarPlay) or android through your center console (Audio 20CD or command online). The cars with available feature are:

A class, B class, CLA, CLS, GLA, GLE and GLS.

Unfortunately, and I do not understand the reason, the GLC does not come yet with that optional feature.

Can anyone answer the reason why? Anyone has got further/updated information of that?

would be glad to hear your opinions.

None of us knows why. Kind of annoyed that neither our 2016 C300 or 2016 GLC300 will have Car Play, but it is what it is. You can do what I have done and I encourage everyone to do. Contact Mercedes and let them know you are not pleased. Not pleased at all.

Also why doesn't MB have touchscreens? Using the dial and the touchpad is so yesterday

Here's where I'll differ with you. The Germans don't particularly like touch screens and I'm actually glad they don't. Finger prints drive me nuts (I constantly wipe them off my iPhone and iPad). Almost anything you want to do can be done via the turn wheel beneath the touchpad and if you have Comand (Multi-Media package), just about everything can be done with voice commands.

Not sure if it's a German thing because Porsche uses a multitouch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay.
Using a screen protector will prevent those fingerprint marks.

Perhaps my comment was overly generic. One might guess, given that Mercedes, BMW nor Audi don't use touch screens in their cars, they may not be as popular with most German auto manufacturers. Whatever the reason, I much prefer not having a touch screen. I don't even really use the touch pad. I can do everything either with verbal commands or use the rotary knob easily.
