Thanks I will look st those. Absolutely a joke that an MB car has tires that lasted 11,000 miles & its because of soft tires in S. Fl.

Did you verify the wear yourself? It's easy to measure.

Mike, There is something going with your GLC other than crappy tires.

Very unusual to experience simultaneous excessive wear on all four tires. Usually this condition occurs because of an out of alignment condition on one or both front tires .

My GLC has the same tire. At 12,500 the tread on my tires still look like new. With a 600 tread wear rating I'm expecting to get at least 50,000 miles from these tires.

The need to match speed rating is rubbish. Nowhere, that I'm aware of, is there any published guidance mandating matching speed rating. It is wise to specify tires that comply with the vehicle rating. For example the speed rating for the GLC appears to be H. It would, however, be ok to mount V rated tires or any combination of the two.

If being in south FL. was the problem, everyone there would be replacing their tires at 11,000 miles

Have you examined the tires yourself to confirm they are bald?

Have you been running the specified pressure? And checking pressure every four/five weeks.

If it turns out the tires are in fact the cause of the problem, it may be beneficial to discuss the issue with Pirelli.

And obtw, stay off Daytona Speedway.

Here is another view... If by any chance your tire is unusable... The chances you will need to change two or maybe the four tires is high.

In have been told that the 4matic system is very good, but very sensitive. If one of the tires is slightly different you will get all sort of alarms come on.

Anybody know if this is true? I have a friend who owns a BMW 430d xdrive and had to change all 4 tires because he punctured one of them.

Bolt spacing should be 5-112. You can find a compact spare tire through Tirerack.com; not sure if they carry the actual wheel though. I have to believe you can put together a scissors jack and tire iron from the local auto parts store. This would be way cheaper than MB parts.

That should not be the case as he is a manager of the dealer...

Searching a bit seems like others have come up with the same question...

I don't think this should really be an issue on most modern AWD systems that are already constantly moving power around - and so always slipping. This is how they work normally. Certainly BMW doesn't see an issue, my M235 xdrive can be had with staggered tires that are about 1.5% different diameter. I'm admittedly not familiar with MB's system.

So I'm looking at anything I can find on modern 4matic and as far as I can tell it's just 3 open diffs and uses the brakes to "force" power around. Certainly better ways to do it, but anyhoo...if this is the case the worst thing that would happen is the brakes working overtime because it thinks tires are slipping due to running at different speeds. If so the stability light should be coming on. If it's not, the car doesn't care about the small difference in speed it is seeing from slightly different diameter tires.

GLC, 250d.
Replaced one tyre at 9000km, no impact on remaining 3 tyres.
Currently travelled 25000km, so far so good.
Aware of "risk" of replacing in pairs or all fours. So far mot an issue.
Guessing around 10,000km left in set ? So might get 35k from them, hoping for 45k, but doubt it. Also not prepared to risk family or car for any tyre record !!!

Bought my GLC 300 in May of 2016. Now in Sept 2017 with 13,000 miles on the Pirelli Verdes the tread depth is within 1/32 of minimum. I'm an 82-year old driver so I don't speed or do sharp cornering. If you surf the web you'll find many owners with similar short lives on their run-flats. I'm very particular about tire pressures too. Have had a front end thump at 30-40mph. Dealer rotated tires front-to-back. Still thumped. Then I paid for an alignment that showed only 1 slight toe-in error. Still thumped. Now they have replaced front and rear differentials. Somewhat better but not all better. They told me I needed new tires at 12,500 miles! I find it very difficult to believe those who claim 25-50,000 miles on their run-flats. I'm told that because the sidewalls are stiff, the tread compound is made soft to get a decent ride. Soft compound equals short life. Think I'll use conventional tires on the next set and rely on AAA to save me.

Good news !!
Mercedes and Dealer have come to the Party and are helping. Melbourne.
Fitted today
255/45/R20
Goodyear Eagle Sport All Season ROF tyres x 4.
Made in Germany, MO Extended, Run Flat technology !!!!, rim protector, extra load 105V
Treadwear 560, Traction A, Temp A, side facing out, Wet B, Fuel C and noise 70db.
Drove home in pouring wet and cold, no crabbing, quieter and sooo much better over speed humps, would not know RFT !!
Too wet to stop and check tyre presures. So will run them in for next 500km, that will be weekend. Very optimistic this will be ok. Very surprised RFT !. Just hope M&S rating will give me 40-45000km like Pirelli, but there may be a trade off, time will tell. In US they have a 50000km g'tee, looks like Oz might miss out on this feature.
Cannot source these tyres commercially yet in Oz, hopefully the supply chain will start to stock for replacements.
Thanks for everyone's help and info, really appreciate all contributions – I have learnt a lot. .

Try these tyres if in your size, Early days here, but seem ok.

In UK, GLC's are being delivered with Quatrac 5 tyres, non run flat to fix RHD vehs with tyre judder. So far good reports on them too.
For no run flats, MB fitting to 21" rims Continebntal contisport 5P, with conti seal, but not MO type, fitting the BMW/Rolls Royce design with a * Star to differentiate., works very well too.

just happened to notice these in 18" size in the US on goodyear.com the other day - and they appear to have a 40k mileage warranty.

Glad to hear they are working out well for you!

Replaced the OEM tires at 19,000 miles. No wear warranty. Bought Bridgestone DriveGuards from Americas Tires. 140 each out the door with a 60,000 mile wear warranty and road hazard warranty. They are 19" RFT's. they also ride better than the OEM's which I think were the conti's. All 4 Conti's were evenly worn out so no mechanical problem just crappy tires.
