That is a really lame answer. The guy must have never seen a W124 E class with a single wiper. Worked great.

skipping wipers GLC300

Just got my GLC300 back from the dealer to deal with the skipping wipers issue and the work order says that they replaced the wipers. The advisor told me that they were going to "polish" the windshield to remove some film that comes from the factory to help rain run off.

Net net, the wipers work amazing now!! Problem solved for now!

2017 GLC Coupe
the wipers on my coupe were perfect until 2 weeks ago. I took it to a hand wash car wash and since that time, whenever it rains they are shuddering/skipping. If I spray windshield fluid onto the window, then they are fine.

Clean blades with rubbing alcohol. It will help. Get some good ammonia free window cleaner designed for car windshields. It will help.

Has anyone ever considered that they may be 'over' cleaning their glass/blades? Squeaky clean so to speak! !

I don't have the wiper issue on my 250d but did experience it on my previous VW Touareg. After trying all the cleaning products /processes as described here and elsewhere to no avail I eventually gave up and decided to suffer it. Soon after that the problem went away!!

This video reflects the current situation of my GLC:

It was like this from the beginning, and after 2 attempts of the dealer to resolve it. Will give it another try at the dealer soon. I cannot imagine that it cannot be solved if there are cases with no such problem reported.

I had juddering wipers on my GLA from new and always got worse to the point where i would use the wipe button and turn off auto . Took it to my dealer twice and on second occasion i was told that the uv spot on the blades had turned yellow ( from black when new ) so wasn't a warranty issue and i had to buy new blades, the service guy said ' thirty quid isn't much is it ' and advised me to replace the blades every 3 months to stop the juddering coming back !So i had the new blades fitted and i can see already after nearly 2 weeks and them only been used twice that they are starting to show signs of juddering just like when it was new. The service adviser also told me not to pay any attention to internet forums as they are rubbish . Just to let you know on my first visit to a different dealer i was fobbed off with the problems i reported which were :misaligned fuel flap ( which later on left my wife stranded as she couldn't put fuel in) ,a knocking from the front pulling off on full lock ( sounded like a cv joint to me) and juddering wipers. The lady adviser rambled on about the noises being a new car thing . I have been in the motor trade 30 odd years but what qualifications has she got i'd like to know ?

My wipers started juddering a bit about a month ago, just before a big road trip. Because I'd paid attention to this thread, I had a can of original Bon Ami on hand. I used it to polish the windshield that weekend, and there's been no judder since. Thanks, MBworld!

If you can find alternate wipers that work, do please share. Last I checked, I could not find ANY that exist (this was last year). The ones on Amazon that supposedly fit the GLC do not, as none make an acceptable adapter.

I believe Amazon sells a RainX model...but wouldn't recommend as I believe it is coated with RainX.

My wife hasn't washed her GLC 300 in 2 months. The wipers still shudder. They shuddered within a month of taking delivery, they shuddered after cleaning blades with alcohol, they shuddered within a week of using Bon-Ami, and they shuddered after we replaced the blades after 6 months.

It's just a bad compound in my opinion, and obviously MB has not addressed it completely (yet).

Had the same issue with the CLS even after they replaced the wiper blades. Don't have the issue with my Lexus and Infiniti. Sucks

I'm heading for service Friday. Should I even bother bringing up the wiper issue?

In a recent service, my windscreen was polished by the dealer. It did improve the situation a bit, instead of the juddering/scratching sound over the whole windscreen area, it now only makes (the same) sounds at the ends of the wipe.

When I spray the windows, there is no sound at all for some tens of seconds. I still have the idea that I see a fat-ish stripe at the ends of a wipe. I first want to see how the sound evolved over time.

Seems like it almost has to be either the angle or rubber compound, or a combination of both. Can you stop these mid-stroke and look at the angle?

Wow....yes, my GLC windshield wipers sound like the video in this thread sometimes...and so did they on my 2013 C300 and 2010 C300 before that.

I am going to try the Bon Ami treatment.
