2005 Mercedes SLK350
Crash Tests

I've seen the European one, but nothing from the US yet. Any idea when those are scheduled? I'm curious.

I believe the Aussie test is really the European one: at least the car shown being crashed is marked as a Euro test car in the photo that accompanies the test report, and timing of the test reports seems to suggest as much. Can anyone down under clarify. In any case, a good test result.

Of course, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's just released evaluation of LED head light performance should make the luxury makes look over their work: only a Prius model good as high as a "good" mark. This is why we have a market.

C class LEDs rated poor. Yikes.

What's wrong with German headlights? In the IIHS evaluation the BMW 3 series were the worst halogens in the test group. The 2016 C-Class LED projectors produced essentially the same amount of light on high beam as the halogens while the LED reflectors (on high beam) were notably worse than the halogens.

Sadly a large percentage of those fatalities involved "live dummies" who weren't wearing seat belts which are the first line of protection in a crash.....

Another issue is the IIHS is now conducting the small overlap test which the government does not and is not used to calculate the 5 star ratings. The small overlap is failed by many US autos and contributes to fatalities.
