roof rack?

Does anyone have either an MB or other brand roof rack?

I'm wondering if the MB one can be removed and reinstalled by the owner? I would only use it a couple times a year and wouldn't want the basic carrier loadbars on the car all the time. The MB website doesn't seem to list the basic carrier.

I checked the Thule and Yakima websites and they don't seem to offer anything compatible with the GLC. Anyone know of a compatible brand/model?

Thanks in advance for any help.

MB publishes a GLC Accessory Catalog.

Among other items illustrated are roof rack adapters and attachments thereto. These attachments allow for carrying bicycles, snow boards, skis and several different size weather proof containers.

My salesperson gave it to me.

I'll be getting roof bars from MB. This is one thing I won't go 'third party' on with the car. If I'm putting my bikes up there I don't want a third party set of roof bars holding them on!

My experience is that a Thule/Yakima set is usually superior to the factory equivalent. Can't speak specifically for MBZ, but can for BMW. My Thule is rock solid and holds 4 bikes perfectly. Bikes are better hung from a rear hitch mounted rack anyway. The Kuat is supposedly very good as well.

When you get your car and bars, please let me know whether it looks like you would be able remove and reattach the bars yourself. Thanks. I'd like to have the bars mounted only when needed, which would be maybe twice a year.

I sent in an email to Whispbar asking if they are in development for the X253. Hope to find out soon. I had these on a previous car and really loved them. They really are quiet too.

Here is one from Amazon. OEM that fits the X253. But, it says something about the sunroof unable to open with the rack?

I have the MB bars and they are a bit fidgety at first but I went through the on/off operation with the mechanic and think they are pretty slick! Not hard at all to get on and off the vehicle.
Definitely well engineered....what else would you expect?

Note that they do limit usage of the panorama roof...IF you have one.
