Let me apologize for Plutoe's rudeness - and frankly I don't think he has ever driven a new GLC.
"Recommended" factory service for your GLC - every 10K miles or 1yr - whichever comes 1st.
Your 1st/10K service is termed "A" service - and the 2nd/20K service is termed B service.
I have attached a link below which you can use to download the Maintenance Manual for your GLC which will give you more specific on the recommended service.
https://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/servi...2016&class=GLC SUV&engine=undefined
Please note dealers are allowed to set their own prices for service - so if you have more than one dealer in your area - when service becomes due it can save you a bit to call and ask/quote.
Going into your 2nd/20K service - if you are planning to keep your GLC past 40K miles - before your 20K service - before checkin - you can save a bit by asking those dealers to quote you "3yrs Prepaid Maintenance" which will cover you 20K/30K/40K and save you a bit more.
Enjoy your new MB - keep the beat !

Yes it is 1 year or 10,000 miles whichever comes first. Some, especially if they plan on keeping the vehicle long term, will have an oil change at about 1,500-2,000 miles and then again at 10,000.

I always do my first one at around 2500 miles, then 5k, then every 5k. However, I do them myself. This makes it very inexpensive and convenient compared to having it done at a dealership.

Frankly - positively, absolutely no reason to change before 10K - actually the factory has added specific oil additives at the factory to assist in proper breakin over the initial 10K.
Some owners - old school - fell better about themselves and their MB by doing oil changes early - if that "feels good" - no worries.
Frankly - a different investment for long term MB owners to consider - for both improved fuel economy and reduced wear - replace AIR FILTER more often.

Assyst Plus will adapt the service interval dependant on the way the car has been driven unless 12 months comes up first. There is a display menu option which tells you when the next service is due.

Sorry for not being clearer
I do have the manual that stated 1yr/10k for the first service.
The reason that the questions was raised is due to conflict opinions.
1. Use the recommended schedule, for special additives ?
2. Sooner change after the first couple of thousand miles, to get rid of the break-in residuals.
There must be a better one among the two, but which one ? assuming that we can change by ourselves at low cost.
Thanks.

As posted earlier, follow the guidance contained in the manual. One year or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first.
If changing oil early gives you a warm fuzzy, then do so. In reality doing so does nothing for your engine but will lighten your wallet.

Both points are good advice.

If I wanted to make the engine last longer I would change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles and the air filter every 10,000 miles and use only the best gas, i.e.; Shell 93. If it was a lease car and I did not intend to purchase at the end of the lease I would follow the owner's manual.
changing the oil more often will keep not only a cleaner engine with less wear but will also lessen the deposits on the valves which can be an issue with DI

Whatever floats your boat - oh, just do you know - there is a break-in oil formulation specific to each production MB engine/model - actually the true MB engineering spec for oil change from late '90's was engineered to 12.5K in mid-2000's - and since 2014 all models has been engineered to go out to 15K oil change - but since old-ster's here in the US won't even believe 10K - Mercedes has kept the 10K consumer spec ... oh, when was the last time a enthusiast bench ran a motor to 500K miles - in environmental from -30F to 160F - I think Mercedes has a little bit more extensive experience than holdovers from 60's Fords/Chevy's...

I don't agree with you on this one, don't think there is any "special chemistry" and based on years of building and racing high performance cars/motorcycles....I plan on changing oil/filter out at 1000-1500 miles and 5K miles on my GLC43. Even with the best modern machining techniques there are still parts wearing in and mating to one another on any newly assembled motor.
I doubt that it is going to hurt anything if you change it early. I also doubt that anything will be harmed by waiting for the full 10k interval. I intend to split the difference and change it at 5k and then perform the regularly scheduled service A at 10k.

It's not uncommon for manufacturers to add Moly to the break in oil. A Merc engineer confirmed this over on the w205 forum. Also they debate this to death over on https://bobistheoilguy.com/.

Forgive the newbie questions as I'm new to MB. I'm still trying to figure out how the ASSYST system works. I understand the Service A 10K part but is there a separate oil monitor (like in my other cars that I simply reset when I change the oil). If you change oil "early" doesn't' the ASSYST system loose track of the oil "life". In this case do you then just ignore any "change oil" messages if one were to come up before the Service A? If that is true does it store anything in the computer that could be a warranty issue?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Service plan in UK still expensive on Mercs, £35 per month on GLC equates to £420 for a service.
On discovery sport I have 5 year service plan (12 monthly service) for £500, the new discovery sports are every 2 years but you still get 2 services for £500, I think BMW is similar.
