If on minimally shakey ground it seems that the deep pockets usually wins. JMHO.
Like I said, I can only comment on mpg and power. At the end of the day, >91 is the recommended fuel type.

Guido, you should be a politician. You didn't answer one of the points that I questioned. What you experienced on a 20 plus year old car wil not hold up in court today. Like I stated a long time ago. Do what your comfy with.

If you're afraid that you're going to blow up your engine using 89, then by all means don't do it. You'll probably have trouble sleeping. Likewise, if you really think that you might somehow actually end up in court trying to defend your decision to use 89, then you've been watching too much court TV. Just kidding, of course, you're right; "comfy" is what matters.

Thanks when I was at the dealer my sales rep told me again not to be afraid to use 89 he has been using in his car for years. However if I have an issue I'm not sure how the warranty works and would need to research it. With gas prices being low still and the difference being manageable I stayed with 91. But I need to do more research on the warranty aspect.

QUOTE=guido3;6856259]I've discovered way back in 1992 -- my first 91-octane M-B, before that diesels -- that 89 produced no adverse symptoms in terms of mpg, power, and engine longevity. I ran a 2004 C-Class 4Matic wagon for 9 years on 89 and never had a mechanic touch the engine, except for oil changes. When I traded the wagon, it used no oil between changes and never knocked. After 24 years is my luck about to run out, I don't think so.[/QUOTE]

I had a vehicle buy back from a major manufacturer in 2014. They went through all of my records and I still had to go through a five hour deposition with a lawyer. Luckily my records were impeccable. Their lawyer asked me if I kept records like this on all my vehicles. When I told him I had records like that on my lawn mower he closed the meeting.

Some manufacturers show the hp and tq ratings of certain (mainly turbocharged) engines using both premium and regular fuel. It makes it easier for the driver to determine what they want to use.

Mazda is the latest with the 2.5t in the new CX-9. Horsepower is 227 on regular and 250 on premium. Torque is the same at 310 lb. ft. @ 2,000 rpm. They don't show any difference in estmated MPG's with either 87 or 93 octane.
