2016 Volkswagen GTI (mine), 2016 Mercedes GLC300 (wife's)
Our first choice was originally going to be a pre-owned 2013-2015 RX350. We test drove a couple, along with plenty of other new and pre-owned competitors: Audi Q5, BMW X3, Jag F-pace (first one the dealer got in), Range Rover, X5, X5m, GLK, and finally the GLC. I loved the look and interior of the Volvo XC90 and Mazda CX-9, but my wife wouldn't consider anything with three rows of seats.

Out of these, the Jag and X5m were by far the most fun to drive (although both X5m's we looked at were pre-owned, and felt loose and creaky after only a few years). The Lexus was comfortable and solid but boring. We would've likely ended up with one, except that it is really difficult to get a clean, low-mileage one around here for much less than 31-32k. They seem to hold there value really well, partly b/c they're great cars and (I imagine) partly because the 2016s have such polarizing styling (I'm not a fan).

We ended up getting our new GLC300 for 37+ttl, which felt like a great deal compared with a 3-year-old Lexus for 32k or an ugly new one for about 44 minimum. Our Benz doesn't have all of the luxury features that most pre-owned RX350s do, but it has everything we need plus superior safety tech. It's just as comfortable, nearly as spacious, much quicker and more fun to drive, more economical, and much more distinctive (RX350s on every street corner in our neck of the woods). In love so far!

Did one of them happen to be an issue with weatherstripping on the rear gate that let water in and got the headliner soaking wet?

A guy posted this on Volvo Forums July 9 and got no response:

Who's Happy? 2016 XC90
trying to get a pulse on how happy folks have been with their new Volvo XC90. Seems to be a bunch of feedback regarding issues with electronics, roof leaking and so on. Hoping to hear from folks who haven't had many issues.

Didn't hear about electronics but heard of the roof leaks. Sure is pretty though.

That is what caught my wife. She had a G35 that zipped around and she loved it. Hopefully, the GLC300 will give her the same feeling as she drives around town and I am the long distance driver. More and more I am feeling this is going to be one of our better automobiles.

I saw 2 new RX350's today parked next to eachother. One was white, the other was red. I was so grossed out, I couldn't eat my food! It was worse in a parking lot than in the showroom. So fugly!

So far we are unable to get our specific build ordered and it seems like getting the U09 Dash is a problem. Also, just last night I scraped the left front bumper of the RX on our brick façade pulling into our garage. The only thing the RX doesn't have is bumper sensors. Now I am beginning to wonder why the GLC's Trailer hitch = no Parktronic parking. The Canadian cars seem to have it. Sure would like to have that overhead look and bumper sensors on the GLC300 but do not want to give up the hitch to pull my boat. Any ideas why the GLE350 has that combo but the GLC doesn't? May decide to put off the GLC300 purchase and keep the RX350 for awhile. Already nixed the GLE350 as too big.

I think they leave some features off on purpose, so they can add them for future model year upgrades. Apple CarPlay is a good example – it's on many other Mercedes models, but not on the GLC. Perhaps available on the 2018 refresh to make the new model year slightly more attractive. Just a theory.

Got word today that we have a match on our build but for delivery the end of Dec. Christmas present. Do they still do the big bows? However, four more possible chances of getting one sooner if they pan out. BTW One is in Hawaii. Also, just as we were wavering, our SA managed to get us a loaner for the weekend while they checked out the damage to our trade in RX. Picked it up this AM and don't have to return it until Monday PM. Wife was so excited she couldn't sleep last night. She fell in love all over again on the drive home. We are in.
