Running board?

All,

I did not select the running board for my 17 built out. Thinking of installing it at the dealership. Anyone installed running board at the dealer before? Cost? Aftermarket options?

Thanks

A gaggle of MB's
Ebay has the "knockoff" for $300 - with sellers listed domestic US.

You might search the forum for anyone who might have already done that install.

The OE running boards will be pricey - however, MBUSA puts running board installs in the tech guide at 5/6 hrs shop labor - and install of the factory running boards (and factory nut for both sides) is like 45 min a side for 1 1/2hrs

Here in Oz, option for running boards is a no cost option, to have or delete.
We have them on one car and from looks only they are great, BUT, from functionality they are totally useless. Not high enough or low enough to use. You continuously step over them to reach the ground. If it's wet ot muddy, you get that "crap" all over your clothes.
I am seriously looking to remove mine, but will be expensive.
We have ordered a second GLC, with no side steps. Time will tell.

I have to echo Teckno here. I test drove a GLC with factory running boards and with this vehicle height, they just get in the way. My wife always wanted running boards on my ML to aid in the "climb", but even she said the GLC boards made it harder, not easier, to enter/exit. They look cool, I guess, but IMO they're worse than useless in a practical sense. YMMV.

I have an 2015 ML 350 which I just purchased as a CPO and i am having the running boards removed. They make it too hard to get in and out of the car. I have seen positive comments for people who have small children, but most comments are negative. One other option is to find them on eBay and have a local body shop person install them. Its a very simple operation,no painting just remove and replace.

Have to agree with some of the above - we test drove a GLC with running boards and hated the way you have to stretch over them to avoid mucking up trouser legs and they aren't really any great help climbing in and out. We intend to keep this car until we're into our 70s and agility (or lack of it) is an issue for us! OK they look flashy from the outside but we happily chose not to have them. If you like running boards then go for it, but if you don't have long legs or a youthful spring in your step, I'd recommend having a serious look at the dealers before deciding!

Got them installed--- it did hit my pants leg, but I must have adjusted, or not noticed it anymore. Love the way they look though, and would install again.

Does anyone have pictures or link to pictures, of the running boards with the door open across the sill? Many pictures of them against a closed door, but none against an open door. Trying to gauge the utility of them - or lack thereof.

The only utility value I have found is that they are useful when washing the car.

I have them on our full size GL, and the only time we've used them in the past three years is when washing the roof of the car. When we looked at the GLC it is so low down that I just don't get the point of the things.

The only use I've found on a car was where in a car park they stopped other parked cars dinging the doors as they hit the running boards first. But from what I've seen the GLC ones don't even do that.

Then there is the other element, the ones on our GL have gone dull due to weather etc. They just don't look great anymore when three years old. When ordering our GLC I most definitely didn't tick the box for those things.

I have running boards on my last vehicle. In short, a super pain in the keister.

When my sales person asked if I wanted them on my M-B my response was not no but hell no.

They might be a pain but in my opinion they finish the car. I can't imagine this beauty being without the running boards!!

Running boards

I am replacing my running boards with the standard rockers, but am painting them the same color as the body ( in my case white) It will have the look of ML with sport package. Cant wait to get them on.

The running boards are a pain. Should have a set for sale in the near future.

I didn't order them on my GLC. Have them on the GLE and they are for looks not for use. When it's very hot here in TX, i've gotten my leg burned a few times.
