Smile Tailgate Chrome Strip

Has anyone installed themselves or had the dealer install the "Rear Chrome Trim Strip" on the GLC 300 tailgate? Is it applied with two-sided tape?

I was at the MB dealer today and noticed that the GLA has a chrome strip on the back bumper but the GLC doesn't !!! I wonder what was the MB logic behind this as the GLA has an even narrower bumper depth to the trunk.
Not even and option!

It is an option to have a factory chrome accessory strip on the tailgate below the window; I saw it on the Mercedes Germany configurator last year.

Having been obsessed about the details since I ordered my car, what i think is this: When you look at the all the sexy catalog shots, trade show pics etc, and even in test cars they give to reviewers, the car is MOSTLY configured with the sport package, which is to have a "stealthier" look with black bumpers vs chrome, black trim around the windows etc. Most also have the larger tires. So, I would guess that having a chrome strip would just be something else to remove or change for the manufacturer on the exterior shell. Also, opting for those larger tires also require the sport package. And is one of the reason Ididn't get larger tires. Personally, I like the chrome accents better than stealth as i look at it as frosting and like a little, and in this case, frosting actually works better with my wallet too! However I did add the chrome door handle inserts to avoid scratches like I have on my lexus, apparently from jewelry. But I am definitely assuming all door handles have that little bit of chrome EXCEPT perhaps if sport package? I suppose most guys don't have the ring thing to contend with, but truthfully, my engagement ring doesn't even set up that high and I see the damage on my lexus door handle. Anyway.... As to the liftgate trim specifically, My dealer said it's actually an accessory they can add at the dealership to which I might have them do during "Dealer Prep." But seriously, how well does double sticky tape work? Is that the case with all cars with the liftgate trim?

The back lights look pretty fancy. I wonder is this is new for 2017 or is it the same as 2016 just the angle of the shot.
I personally like the Night package with black accents on white paint. It definitely looks sportier. The chrome doesn't look as sporty when I see GLC driving in front of me on the highway. We are definitely getting the door inserts on the GLC, as we like them on our GLE. Yes double sided tape sounds cheap. We had to have all of them replaced by the dealer as after a few car washes they started to get unglued.

Assuming the tailgate chrome strip was installed with double-sided tape, has anybody had this on their car for a few years without any problem of coming loose?
Thanks again

I got mine here https://www.kunzmann.de/shop/en/tuni...al-schaetz.htm

Had a bit difficulty installing because the tape is so strong... I actually tried getting it off before I pressed it in place, because it wasn't 100% flush, but I was unable to pull it off, so now I live with a small gap on one side.

Not the end of the world :-)

Edit: maybe you are referring to the chrome part on the actual door, in that case sorry for the noise, i don't know about that.

I have had the chrome metal strip on the car for the past 2 years, which was supplied and fitted by the MB dealer. No problems.

I ordered both the front chrome trim and rear chrome trim on mine. I think they both look great.

I got this off Amazon, in shiny chrome to match lettering/logo and license plate bracket. Came with 3M double sided tape strips already in place, but I added a few more pieces of tape. It’s been there 6 months and no problems so far.

As mentioned above, make sure you do a "dry" fit before peeling off the tape and permanently installing it, noting the exact position you want it at. The tape is very strong so you only have once chance to get it right.

When I ordered my chrome strip (genuine) Mercedes, in addition to the chrome pieces, inside the box was a plastic locating piece that fits exactly on the right side and locates the strip perfectly in the center, without any guess work. People underestimate the 3M tape for holding power. If you doubt it will fall off in time, you can do one additional step and get a 3M primer pad that cleans the application area. Area doesn't need to be very warm but I heated the tailgate area with a heat gun before application - NOT hot, just slightly warm.

Two years on and my Ebay purchase works perfectly on GLC wagon. At the time no OEM option in Oz.
Just purchased one for GLC Coupe too from Eastern Europe, not fitted yet, will do so in next week or so. Again, no OEM offering here in Oz. Pity. !

So there is a template to guide you for the install? Can you take a pic of it on your car?
