TORQUE v HORSEPOWER

While I understand the basics....can anyone give me a better insight into which is more important in terms of overall driving experience etc?

The first 45 seconds of this video has the best explanation of torque vs horsepower I've ever heard:

2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat vs. 2015 Tesla Model S P85D! - Head 2 Head Ep. 65

A lot of people don't get the difference between quick and fast. If a car can hit 60 mph in about three seconds it's very quick. However, if it's top speed is 60 mph you can't say it's fast. Likewise if a car can go about 200 mph it's extremely fast but if it takes eight days to get there you can't say it's quick.

Short hand: torque + traction = quick. Horsepower = fast.
IMO, torque is more important because you experience it's effects more often. That experience of being pushed into your seat when you accelerate? That's torque. As far as horsepower is concerned...how often are you going drive 100mph+?

Torque... I don't understand why that generally the industry focuses on HP. Both have their impacts, but Torque is what usually delivers the fun. And I bet more so called gearheads ask about HP and rarely inquire about torque.

Frosty's post above is spot on.

Interesting description.

Have to say my 250d with 500nm (370 ft/lbs) of torque is a pleasure to drive. As you guys have said it has all the 'go' I need for fun every time I drive and I am unlikely to ever drive it at over 100mph!!

Wish they sold the GLC 300 diesel version here in the states. Have my VW Passat TDI and it has 140hp but like 240 torque and it's awesome the power you feel. Getting on
on-ramps or going up hill you can feel the babys power. But thx to VW we won't be seeing diesel here for awhile/or never.
