Weird sound when opening the door, cold car, before starting the engine

Hi guys,

My wife got a 2017 GLC300 (the base + blind spot) a few weeks ago. We noticed that in the morning when she first unlocks the car and opens the door, there's a sound that will persists for about 30 seconds. It only happens when the car is cold, and if she closes the door, locks it and then unlocks it, the sound will NOT occur. And if it's after a drive it will not occur either.

We're guessing it is something warming up. But I got a 2015 C-300 and it doesn't make the same sound. (The only two differences (electrical) between our cars would be the rearview camera and the pre-wired garmin.)

We showed the recording to the dealership and they didn't think it's serious... but wanted to know about your opinions...

Below is the recording.

Thanks,
jordyun

LOL I never surprises me the number of sounds these cars make when you start, stop, open and close doors. My GL used to huff and puff like a dragon, then make snake like noise (air suspension), and clicking of relays. Sometimes ages after something happened. No idea what goes on in those computers but they never sleep.

Artificial intelligence? When static, my GLC makes all kinds of groans, huffs, pings, clicks ect. ect.

Dear Jordyun,
Did you discover where the problem is coming from?
I ask because my car GLC Coupe 2020 does exactly the same thing!
Thank you

I actually don't remember what this noise was... I tried to find the recording but I can't find it either. I think I get used to this now, after 7 years And if I need to guess I think it's the rearview camera warming up.

If I remember I'll try to see if the car still makes this noise tomorrow.

Hi Jordyun,
Thank you for reply ... for me the problem is when I open the door that noise appears as you described above (only in the morning appear when is cold outside)... I was curious what was the problem in your case.
I will go to the Mercedes workshop to see what the problem is.

If it didn't get worse after 7 years, it was probably normal : ) otherwise you would be getting all sorts of codes or lights.

Like others mentioned, it was probably the fuel pump priming. As for the video you want to find, it says your video is private so if you still have the youtube account you can go to that video and login and see if you have access to the video.

You're welcome we are here to help, if you have a chance, do record the sound and upload it here for us to listen that help us in figuring out things for you. Do state the general area where it is the loudest as well.

If I start the car immediately, the noise persists for a while (tens of seconds) after which it stops. During the day, this problem does not occur until the next day.
I suspect that the problem is related to the cold outside. When there were warmer nights, this problem did not appear, since it got cold the problem appears every morning.
Thanks for the opinions!

Sorry for the late reply, haven't been checking the forums lately.

Hmmm, never heard that before. Sounds like a cricket or wasp but not really, I wouldn't say that is normal, so 10 seconds, is it only audible in the cabin or you can hear it outside, if you can hear it outside, at what location is the loudest?

I lifted the hood of the engine and it is heard but it is not very clear where it is coming from - I will go to the Mercedes workshop in the next few days for investigations!
