Trickle Charger Needed?

I never had a problem with my Saabs on this kind of routine, but this is my first year as a Mercedes owner. For my car, my batteries (sic), and my well-being would it be prudent to hook a trickle charger up until mid-March? If so, any recommendations about what charger is a good choice, e.g. the Mercedes one? And, what is the easiest way to hook a charger up on the GLC?
Thanks to anyone who has experience to share. And best wishes for 2017 to all the member who contribute to this forum.
I plan to buy the geniune MB trickle charger to charge my 2017 GLC43 during winter. According to the manual of the charger, the charger comes with a 12V "male" adaptor that plugs into a "special" 12V socket on "specific vehicle" (e.g. ML class as stated in the manual) designed for charging.
My first question is ... does my GLC43 had one of those "special" socket (and where is it) ?
If not, is it safe to use the socket in the cargo compartment which I believe is "always on" (ie it is still ON when ignition is off".
Thanks in advance for your help.
