Difficulty filling up

I took the car to the dealer (Walter's MB) this morning to get some help with this fueling issue. They sent a team leader along with me to the gas station. He showed me how to push the nozzle into the filler pipe ALL the way in, then push down on the handle, to lock the nozzle in place. You will know when this is done correctly--if you give a tug on the nozzle, you can't pull it back out, until you pull up slightly.
Easy peasy, as Jeff described above--I just wasn't getting the nozzle fully locked in, and the spring in the rubber boot pushes the nozzle back out to the point where it loses its handshake and clicks off.
Back to the dealership, they bumped me to the front of the line for a complimentary carwash. Great service!

Had exactly the same issues here in Marin County, California at chevron and shell stations.
had to push the nozzle fully in. Has a worrying situation for a few seconds where the nozzle could not be pulled out.
the issue is solved by pulling the nozzle up before pulling out.
ill have to try the insert and pull down trick, or the 10 o clock trick mentioned here.
not a major issue once you perfect the technique.

Most of the time when I try to fuel up, the pump keeps shutting off. Costco is my usual fuel stop, and this has occurred with older pumps as well as the brand new pumps just installed in their Fontana CA location. It appears that the metal collar around the fuel inlet on the car is a bit too small for the rubber snout on the pump nozzle to fit correctly. The handshake between these two parts must be precise, or the pump cuts off.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any solution?
I'm going to ask my dealer as well...
This never happens on my 2015 E350.
I measured the ID of the filler inlet collar on both cars, 74 mm.
