COMAND or Smartphone Integration?

Well, it looks like Smartphone Integration (Apple CarPlay/Android Auto) is now available on the GLC. As this is new information, things aren't completely clear, but it would seem that if you go with SI, you will probably not get the larger 8.4" screen that would come with COMAND...along with the Navi updates and Touchpad.

I'm not so worried about the Navi updates or the Touchpad with COMAND, but think I would miss the larger screen. What would you do? COMAND or Smartphone Integration?

PS. I will be checking with the dealer to see if they can verify what screen would actually come with SI.

I was all for the smart phone integration as it should be less, I don't care at all for that "touch pad", and I use the nav on my phone regardless of how good/new the auto's nav is. But then I thought about it and went the other way. I originally had my order in with the smartphone integration but changed it to multimedia instead. My reasons are simple: I can still use my phone if I want, the touch aspect that makes the phone a breeze to use would be gone, and the screen looks funny in the 7" size. Also, I tend to use the built in displays for other things in my vehicles and would prefer the larger screen size for those items (e.g. climate control, settings, audio)

Not sure what all the buzz about AP/AA is. I have it in the new '17 Honda Pilot and it's slow to load, needs a cable to be plugged into the phone to work, and blocks you from using your phone for any reason, unless you do a bunch of clicking to bypass it. Since the car already comes with its own navigation (Garmin) and you can bluetooth music to the car speakers without it, it seems redundant. Seems like a good idea, but it needs to work better. Never use it. I'd probably opt for the larger screen on MY18.

Thanks guys, that makes perfect sense. I don't have a present vehicle with AP/AA, so not really missing anything, but it's talked about so much one gets the impression it's really cool/good. Then again, it's newer technology, so one can anticipate not the best and I have read that with respect to many vehicles.

I think there is some confusion here - for MY2018 - which is can be configured in NetStar now - without prices - yes, Smartphone integration is avail.

You are correct, I removed my original info on MY17 as it was a miscommunication and incorrect. Only MY18 is avail with SI. Thanks!

After reading the new MY18, it appears that the screen is identical regardless if you get COMAND or the SI option. Can anyone else confirm?

If you look at Page 10 of the MY18 guide, it mentions the 7" screen with the Standard Comfort/Convenience items. The Multimedia Package code (COMAND option) for MY17 and MY18 are both 531 and that code indicates it will have the 8.4" screen. 99.9% sure still 2 screen sizes depending on options.

OK, I give. What is smartphone integration? Or is that just a name for car play?

+1 for command. Larger screen and you have your phone. Best of both worlds.

Please understand Smartphone integration for MY18 will NOT be a available options for june/July/August builds - and right now Sept build could be iffy if avail or not - but it will come Fall for sure...

I'm on the same boat. I think I've decided to do large screen and use phone the old school way if needed. I'm just a sucker for larger, prettier screens. What did you end up doing?
