Do you have Comand? You used the blue OBD adapter pictured on the prior page? Thanks!

YES with a VIN is enough to check with Daimler database, so we could 100% warranty it will work with our OBD2 CarPlay Module.

Can you tell us what you are looking at when querying the Daimler database? I see it requires an SA154 datacard code, can you tell us what this is?

we offer 2 options for X253 GLC,
1. spec with SA154 work via OBD2 Module plug and play
2.CarPlay Smartbox add proxy apple kit

Is that part of a package? I don't see it in any 2018, 2017 USA/Canada GLC I checked.

Also, it looks like 2018 GLCs have COMAND APS NTG5/NTG5.5, see this datacards: https://www.datamb.com/vin/LvJ8m3d37KMdX7e0W and https://www.datamb.com/vin/MYz6Xk2RnJr21xjL9

yes it is very common, i can't say all C/GLC will spec with SA154, all the VINs we checked 30-40% will be with SA154

Do they also have ntg 5.5 when that's the case?
Also, is there any chance to make it work without SI154? What does it do exactly?

I noticed that in the US GLC configurator, if the multimedia package is selected, you cannot take the smartphone package. I am guessing this is what is triggering the hardware differences.
You likely have more chance for this to be compatible if you don't take the multimedia package (which has the command navigation 8.4 screen).

Yeah, agreed. I have a 2018 (Oct 2017 US build) with the MM Package/Comand and if the OBD Module would work to activate CP/AA, I'd probably try it, but guessing it will NOT, although there is something about GLC build dates BEFORE Sept 2017...I think, so maybe there's some hardware/software differences MB has made. That's probably where the "CarPlay Smartbox"** they are showing comes in...if my GLC needs that, no thanks, not willing to tear apart my dash, as much as I'd love to have Android Auto/Google Maps. If someone doesn't get the MM Package/Comand, why would they NOT get the Smartphone Package, so ?? and there would be no need for this product. Maybe I'm missing something or they aren't explaining well enough. I've been to their website and just not real helpful in explaining what/how this works for the GLC without giving them a VIN. I kinda like to know how something works and compatibility before shooting off info to a vendor.

NTGCommander, how about a grid or something to make this a little more understandable? Something like...

2016 GLC300/250d/etc = Needs "CarPlay/AA Smartbox"**
2017 GLC300/250d/43/etc = OBD Module works with standard 7" system/screen to activate CP/AA. "CarPlay/AA Smartbox" needed for MultiMedia Package/Comand optioned vehicles.
2018 GLC300/250d/43/etc = pre Sept 2017 builds, see 2017 model year above. Post Sept 2017 builds - OBD Module works with everything or ???

*To be 100% sure on any application, Unichip needs your VIN#.
**Does the "CarPlay Smartbox" include Android Auto, as well? Just assuming it does.

Looks like if you have the MutliMedia Package/Comand option, the only way to make this work is via their "CarPlay Smartbox" hardware...unfortunately. There is an install video out there, but you basically have to take apart your dash, add their hardware and mic, and then you can have ACP/AA. Come on MB, it's friggin 2018.

Right! I see all of the past posts... however not for the 2018 GLC 300! I'm still searching around to see if it's possible without the MM package/ Command. Since I do not have these features...

That's all I'm seeing too... got excited when I was seeing everything about the older models. But, disappointed because I specifically asked my dealer before buying if this was a easy add on after (if not I would have spent more for the MM package). But he said it was a piece of cake to do aftermarket! Obviously didn't know what he was talking about... waiting for his 2nd reply about it. COME ON MB -- it IS 2018!!

2018 GLC300 4Matic (traded in 2016 GLC300)
2018 GLC's can be configured with the AndroidAuto/CarPlay smartphone integration package ($350) as an alternative to the multimedia/navigation package ($2,200). You have to choose which one, as both can't be installed together. If neither was installed, as far as I've read, they cannot be added later.

IMO, you are entering risky territory with any aftermarket solution unless you have someone experienced installing these nearby. Probably better off dash mounting your phone with AndroidAuto or CarPlay installed, connecting it to your car via bluetooth, and controlling it via voice.

Mercedes Benz GLC 250
Sorry to ask but as seeing that android auto/carplay is a hardware issue is it impossible to buy a new 2018 audio20 head unit and replace the existing 2017 unit and then be able to get android auto/carplay? I had asked a rep at my last service but she didn't know and never bothered to ask the technicians (which honestly wouldn't have made a difference as they never know anything at my dealer). So anyone know if that could be a possible option? The cost might be a lot for a head unit too I guess. Thanks for any input.

hi to be 100% sure about the capability of the workable models, normal procedure we will check all VIN based info at Daimler database to ensure it will be 100% compatible, for AndroidAuto we have only v6.0 for inner test demo run for testing only, for the newer version of development we submitted the request on more info for developers and planned to test end of this week on. in case you guys are interested to test old v6.0, please request the download link at tec@unichip-tec.com.

thanks for your comments, we are developing standalone CarPlay box to run in parallel with the existing system. from system side won't break any warranty and no damage to the vehicle for install and deinstall. for 2018 GLC models, if it is come with spec code SA154 we could activate it in original way via ODB2 plug and play.

hi for 2018 GLC X253 we have two possible alternatives for you to use CarPlay as OEM level.
1. for cars specification with SA154 we can activate CarPlay via OBD2 plug and play;
2. use our CarPlay smartbox which install backside of the head unit, and use original AUXIN channel for sounds. these days we just enhanced our harness connectors which will be available to delivery 3rd April, hopefully it clarifies, you could also shoot us for any queries at tec@unichip-tec.com

Can you clarify about 2017 Model GLC? I have a 2017 GLC that was built in late 2016. It has the Audio 20 system. Can I enable carplay with just the OBD2 adapter, or do I need the full smartbox?

Thanks
