Socket size and type for changing lug nuts?

Hello,

New GLC owner here and I wasn't sure if it was better to create a new post or tag onto an existing one about wheels. I got the wheel locks for the car and wanted to install them myself but I can't find anywhere in the manual about what sort of socket, or socket size I'd need. For those more knowledgeable here, would you mind helping me with some info? Thanks much!

I think they are 17mm but would need to check when I get home. I think the torque spec is like 94 or 96 ftlbs

Torque is 96ft lbs. It's on pg 360 of the manual.

It is 17mm, just like many other MB models.

That will work but it's overkill. If you are having to buy an individual socket, I'm guessing you don't have many tools. How were you planning on torquing the lugs to specification?

I was anticipating that I'd have to buy a torque wrench to go along with the socket. I don't really anticipate using it for much else though so I didn't see the need to buy a set of sockets.

I have this one -

Amazon Amazon

Comes with the required socket. 150 nm needed.
Used to just tighten by hand but this is more accurate.
I change winters in/out twice a year having invested in a trolley jack.
Simple!

You don't need non-marring, special pattern 17mm impact socket. Any chrome socket from a big inexpensive tool kit will work. All you need is the socket, a breaker bar, and a torque wrench. The wheel lock will have a hex on the end, usually 17mm, 19mm, 21mm. The only reason you would need that special is to use on impact power tools (which aren't good for the lug bolts).

Just to let you know wheel guards are ineffective against theft. They just cause minor inconveniences to the mechanics that service your car.

That wont work on standard 17mm lug nuts, like are on my GLC43 with 20" wheels.
