Cylinder head faults

Hi all. '16 GLC300, just under a year old with 15k miles. It's the wife's car, check engine light came on and all of a sudden the car started shaking. It was towed to the nearest dealership and they determined it's a cylinder head failure. We've been told the engine may need a full break down, its in the shop for a min of 2 weeks.

Definitely don't feel great about this, but also really glad we leased the car. Anyone here experience anything similar? Hopefully not!

That's really unfortunate. Sounds like your "min 2 weeks" could be a lot longer!

In the year and a half I've been on this forum have only seen one other post detailing major engine failure.

Your four year/50,000 mile warranty should cover repair costs and keep you out of the poor house.

I know this is of little solace, but of the thousands of automobiles produced there is bound to be a small number that will experience a major failure. In my busness its called infant mortality. Or as some of us would say, "Sh*t happens."

Hopefully your service department will pursue the repair posthaste. Stay in touch with them.

Hang in there, it will get better.

Thanks guys. It appears a spark plug went bad and the casing damaged the engine. The service dept is waiting to hear back from MB to advise on repair or full engine replacement. We're looking at a min of 2-3 more weeks, but honestly, seems like it could be longer.

On the bright side, the wife traded in her C class for a brand new GLC loaner. It is pretty bare bones and missing many of the features we have on the ours, but she hated driving a car so this is much better. Just a bummer since the car we are paying for will be in the shop for more than a month.

Yip.....**** happens! No reason the car cannot be repaired and returned to make you 100% confident again. Had a similar situation with a catastrophic failure in a VW Touareg engine which entailed the complete replacement of engine. Was like new when I got it back! No further issues.
