It's just a car. You're overthinking.

I say:
Buy 2 buckets with gritguards.
Buy a microfibre wash-mitt (meguiars is awesome Imo)
Get some good soap (If your car has coating, ask the detailer what products to use.)
Buy a decent degreaser and GO!

Since I also live in a condo with parking in a nearby parking garage, washing in a driveway was out of the question. Instead, I've been using one of the self-service places, and going during off-peak times to take my time. I keep a few products under the floor in the trunk, mostly just microfiber towels and a few spray products. I use the water and soap that comes out the wand at the car wash and then after I've spent ~7-10 min or so going around the car, I break out the giant microfiber towel to dry it off.
After that, I go around and feel for any left over residue or spots that didn't come out and spot wipe those down with Goo Gone or another product. Once everything is good, I'll do a once over with Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax spray.
Altogether that takes about 25 min and $8-$10 in car wash time and products. Makes for a good lunch break on a slow Tuesday afternoon. Once the weather gets cold again, I'll probably just do a quick spray down to get the salt and grime off and call it day.
