old phone pairing??
hello
can anyone give me a hand with pairing an old Motorola razr 2 v9m phone with the glc300 blutooth system? my wifes iPhone 7 pairs fine but when I try to pair my older razr2 phone it has problems. perhaps we are doing this wrong??
so if anyone can give me detailed directions I would greatly appreciate it...
and please no jokes like...get a new phone.....

The Razr 2 is a ten year old 3G phone. The bluetooth version is ancient (vs 2.0 or 2.1) and probably not communicating well with your car. It may not even have the ability to link and DL contacts. Get a new phone.

Your resistance to changing the phone is dumb. If you hate smartphones, you can still get a more modern "dumb" phone that will have newer bt installed. And it will cost you less than a tank of gas.

He's just stating the obvious, which you choose to ignore. Phone tech reaches obsolescence even quicker than PCs. The chances of a phone from 2007 running bt 2.0 connecting with a 2017 bt 4.x system are slim to none. There is a very small chance that your phone may be running bt 2.1. If that is the case, you may be able to establish a glitchy cnxn with it.

However, now I'm just curious. What reason would you have for wanting to connect that particular phone? As you mentioned, you probably could afford to get a new phone for next to nothing, so there's a reason why you want to connect the razr. I just can't think of any...

Agreed, a simple "can't be done because a, b, and c" would have been nicer.

a voice of reason..thanks
one of the reasons is cause I'm so used to it. I really dislike what is known as candy bar phones and phones that are too big and I don't care for iphones. so being a Verizon customer I'm kind of limited. they do have smaller phones but their small phones are usually older technology and if that the case I may as well keep a phone that I like. I have been tempted several times to switch to att where I can then use the sony x5 compact. although this phone is also a candy bar type...id be willing to switch to it cause its small 4.6 in screen.
I tried to pair my razr2 v9m to the glc and it simply wouldn't pair. perhaps I was doing something wrong, so I figure I ask if anyone here knew how. trust me ive been told by many close friends who laughs that I still prefer the raz2 v9m so I anticipated the get a new phone old tired joke.

I use to ride my motorcycle daily and the juke fit in my pocket easily...

P.S. I have found iphones connect up easy to MB, androids... kinda of a hit or miss...
P.P.S. The comments about old tech are true, it may simply be not compatible to the current BT version of the car.

Including:
1. The link to Motorola's factory instructions for bt pairing.
2. Info on what the oldest bt version is still compatible with current tech.
3. Recommendation on confirming your current bt version to verify compatibility.
You're the one being obstinate. It's cool. I'll just refrain from offering any assistance to you in the future.
Good luck.

Not implying it's about money. I figured you were just an old guy attached to an old flip phone. I gave you all the pertinent info needed to figure out if your ancient phone is compatible with bt variants 4.x and newer.
Including:
1. The link to Motorola's factory instructions for bt pairing.
2. Info on what the oldest bt version is still compatible with current tech.
3. Recommendation on confirming your current bt version to verify compatibility.

when i started this thread i had no idea that its was not possible to pair it and thought i was possibly doing something wrong. like i told the other guy......im not opposed to get a new phone but there is nothing i like right now. i even tried at one time to buy phones directly from japan but they are all incompatible with Verizon.

As it seems you have to get a new fone and you like flip fones, check out the Samsung Galaxy Folder or the LG Wine Smart on gsmarena . These are from 2015 but I do recall seeing newer flip fones there
[EDIT] I just saw that Samsung has the W2017. This might be right up your alley if you could get it...
