seatbelt pretensioner recall
M-B sent out a couple of weeks ago a notice to "certain MY 2017 C-Class, GLC-Class and S-Class" owners advising that "the front seatbelt pretensioners may not function properly in the event of a crash." This letter caught up with me while in New England away from DC's July heat and humidity. Since I am 500 + miles away from home for another month and "the parts to remedy this are not currently available," I'll just drive gently for a while--easy to do as the highest legal speed on the island of my current residence is 45 mph. Of course, I do have to get home eventually.
I found a posting by a C-Class owner who says that the problem is that "the propellant mix ratio...[in the affected vehicles's pre-tensioner igniters] might not meet the manufacturing specification." My letter from M-B didn't give that detail, but as this seems a relatively minor problem I hope its accurate. My letter said that the remedy was to replace the front seatbelt. Interesting that they can't just replace the ignitor.
Is mine the only GLC affected?
