Post Missing COMAND

I'm contemplating pulling the trigger on a GLC, but it has an unusual configuration.

It says on the sticker (and salesperson verified this is correct) that is has Premium Package 02 without COMAND.

I haven't encountered this before in any of the other GLCs I'm looking at. What would this mean apart from the obvious of not having a nav system? It looks like many of the car's functions go through COMAND.

- Would I not be able to use mbrace?
- Would I not be able to pair my phone to the car, and stream audio?
- Would I not be able to take calls from my phone through the car?
etc.?

Would this be a dealbreaker for people?
Or is this not really a big deal if I don't care about navigation?

Thanks for any help here.

Wow that is very odd

The biggest thing I think you still see is the difference in the screen size. The comand display is larger and I believe higher resolution.

Does it have the burmester? That is a requirement for the people typically, though in the case of this particular vehicle perhaps not?

Blue ridge on this blog got a car with the same configuration. Car was built at Valmet. Car can still use Mbrace and you still have Bluetooth. Screen is smaller.

The same thing happened to me. I ordered a GLC 300 with the P2 package, but MB shipped it without the COMAND system but with everything else that comes with the P2 package. Check where the car was made. Mine was from Finland, not Germany. I am wondering if that was a Finland issue/mistake.

The main things missing when you have the P2 package without COMAND are: 1) no navigation system; 2) not the 8.4 inch screen, just the 7 inch standard screen, and 3) no ability to control/use you cell phone with voice commands.

I was concerned about the lack of navigation, but the dealer gave me the Garmin Map Pilot program for free. I really like the Garmin program. Very easy to use, and gives you plenty of warning ahead of time for needed upcoming changes in direction. So loss of navigation from COMAND has not been an issue. You can make a few changes using the voice system in the car with the Garmin program, but most changes have to be made manually. That has not been a problem for us. With the COMAND navigation system, you can do a lot more with your voice commands.

The 7 inch screen has been fine for us. It would be nicer to have the 8.3 inch screen, but that is not a major issue for us.

The last issue concerning phone calling has been a major inconvenience. In our GLK 350 (with full P2 package), it was very easy and convenient to use voice commands to control/use our phone. You cannot do so if there is no COMAND system. Your phone is still linked to the GLC via Bluetooth. But to make calls while driving now, we have two choices: 1) manually scroll through the list of phone contacts that appear in the dash screen, which can be both slow and, in some cases, dangerous while driving. If you have an iPhone, you can use Siri to make calls. That is much quicker and safer, but you need to keep the phone out of your pockets to do so to activate Siri. When you receive a call, the 7 inch screen will indicate an incoming call and ask you to either accept or reject it, which you can do via the central controller. We had to do the same thing when we had the GLK, so there is no issue with receiving calls.

If you do accept it without the COMAND system, ask them to throw in the GARMIN Map Pilot program for free. Otherwise it will cost you $600+.

Please let us know where the car was made.

It does have burmester, it's a decent vehicle otherwise from this issue. Heated seats/wheel, static LED, sport package, etc..

Yes it was made in Finland, as you guessed.

Thank you for all that information, it's extremely useful.

The sales person said it did, I was also curious about that. This is what the build looked like with a P02 without Comand:

"RBC RBC P02 Premium Package without COMAND®: 115V AC Power Outlet, $1,550"

Finland strikes again! I checked the sticker sheet that came with my car and it also listed $1550 for the P2 without COMAND. It also included the touchpad controller, Sirius XM Traffic and Weather for 5 years, illuminated door sills, ambient lighting, and the storage package, all of which just come with the P2 (or P3) package.

On a completely different note, be sure to sit in the car and make sure the seats are comfortable. Compare the seats to those in other German-made GLCs on the lot. I am convinced that the lack of adequate padding in my leather (?) seats was yet another Finland mistake. Cannot be sure, but just check out the seats before you sign.

The question was for you.Your car fits the leather package/interior package. It would be a major mistake if your seats are not leather. That's why I asked.

Just out of curiosity why wouldn't they at the factory just add back the correct hardwareb rather than making a non standard build?

Also is the size of the auto 20 unit the same overall size (not the screen) size as the comand unit
