Problem with replace tire
Hello,
My GLC300 which was purchased on 2016 , the OE tires almost worn out. Needs to replace new one. I went to costco to ask for new tires , they told me GLC request run flat tires , so can not do for regular one, is it possible? The OE tire just run 15000 miles , it's too low...so, I am considering go for regular tires like Bridgestone , can I go for 235/60R18 107V regular tire? Run flat doesn't have a lot of option can chose. I am in Texas . Also have aaa membership and inflation kit in my car.
I really need you guys opinion. Many thanks

i don't even know where to begin. For that size, you can get run flat or non-run flat - your choice. So yes, if you want non run flat you can do that. Check tirerack.com and you will see.

When I owned by C300, the dealer would not install non run-flats due to liability reasons. Costco would if I had a spare tire, which I did not. So I stuck with the run-flats until I traded it in.

Interesting. I never ran across this issue of a dealership or tire shop not installing whatever tire I wanted. As matter of fact both my Infiniti and MB dealer swapped my rft for reg tires i personally brought purchased outside.
Have you tried going to other tire shops?

Like mleun481, I'm not sure where to begin either. We've discussed this a lot here if you sift through the threads.
My MB dealer (not in the US) offered to swap my GLC to non-RFT, and advised fitting a Tyrefit kit. I had it done at an independent tyre dealer and carry a spare, although may get a Tyrefit kit for around town. I also carry a 4WD plug kit. If you swap to non-RFT you need some way to cope with a flat.
If you sift through these threads, you will find my view that the ride quality and handling of my GLC improved markedly by switching from 20" RFT to 19" non-RFT and others report similarly. However there are also plenty of people who think that there's absolutely nothing wrong with RFT, so the issue is contentious.

unfortunately there seem to be only 2 options for RFT on the 18" - Pirelli Scorpion or Continental. Depending on which you have now you may want to try the other to see how it goes.
If you go the non RFT route there are many more options, in which case as others have said pump or tirefit or slime will be needed.
i have heard that driveguards can give a nicer ride and they are run-flat, unfortunately the closest size available is 235/55/18 which i don't know if this different size would work with the vehicle, you would have to ask a tire shop

Since the standard is 235/60/18, a smaller diameter will mean that the wheel will travel less far per rotation and the speedo will read faster than you're travelling. Even faster that is, as most MB that I have driven are already 2-3% optimistic at highway speeds. Otherwise it should work, although in some countries there may be compliance issues with fitting a tyre profile different to one of the three recommended by the manufacturer.

It seems that most online reviews of the Pirelli scorpion complain about the very short life of these tires...around 15K.
That's too low for such an expensive tire.

Miles. Most reviews of the pirelli run flats are poor in terms of tire life.
Other run flat choices are the continentals and the goodrich.
Are there any Michelin run flats for the GLc?

For the 18 inch only appear to have pirelli and Continental available as rft. The 19 seems to have a couple more options

Running Pirelli Scorpion Verde run flats, rotated at 9000km and 25,000km with all wheel aligns too.
Running pressure around 36psi.
Currently at 34000km, expect another 10,000km; so hoping for 45,000km total. I do not run tread right down, stop and change just before wear mark warnings. Might keep best two as emergency casings if I get a flat and there is a 4 week wait for replacement tyre !!!
Still considering fitting internal TPMS sensors to rims when I change tyres a well as looking at non run flat tyre options and nitrogen as 'gas' (even though street oxygen is nostly nitrogen, to keep pressure loss and tyre temps better managed. This has been talked about elsewhere.
So overall relatively happy with Km so far, would like a softer ride, but less than 36psi seems to increase shoulder wear on front tyres.
