Apparently Malaysia's getting a GLC 200 as a baseline variant. I can't seem to find the GLC 200 anywhere else in the world (all I could find was the GLC 220d).

Thoughts?

180 HP for a 4000 lb car doesn't sound very appealing regardless of any cost savings.

Frankly, the 300 is a slug as well.

While the GLC300 is not as fast as a GLC43 but it's certainly not a slug.
0-60 in 6.3 seconds for a SUV is not slow by any stretch.

I doubt performance would even matter for the market it's targeting - the typical Malaysian market only cares about exterior looks and the badge, not about performance or safety.

That's why all locally-assembled Mercedeses (besides the S-class) in Malaysia lack Driving Assistance Package Plus (and isn't even available as an option). When buying a locally-assembled Mercedes in Malaysia, consumers do NOT have the option of selecting equipment packages - you're stuck with whatever comes out of the assembly plant. The only thing you can customize is the color for the interior and exterior.

I'd say the GLC200 would be just fine for soccer moms doing school runs or grocery runs. They wouldn't need a vehicle that does 0-100 in less than 9 seconds, and they wouldn't need 4matic either (which the GLC200 here lacks), or intelligent headlights for that matter (only static LEDs were fitted, but not halogen because the typical Malaysian consumer cares about looks).

The only other variant (and best version) of the GLC in Malaysia is the GLC250 petrol.
