Rear Headrests

A member of this forum asked this question in July'17. He said, and the one reply he got back, confirmed the middle headrest would raise to the last notch but would not come out. I haven't checked and just took them a their word.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Two things to be helpful
1. Go to the dealer your ordered the GLC from - and "test" the instructions on a dealer GLC on the lot
2. CORRECT instructions from the Owner's Manual attached
This is NOT rocket science.

Maybe someone at a MB dealer (fabbrisd?) will volunteer to solve this mystery. Or, maybe it IS rocket science.

Just wondering since we're talking that center headrest, Lexus, did you want to remove it to improve visibility in the rear view mirror? Just so you know, it's not in the way when you lower the left side of the back seat, to which it's attached.

Thanks for Feedback
Yes, I wanted to improve rear visibility. Your feedback and knowledge are appreciated.

th
Turns out its low profile and does not interfere with rear view visibility.
Was somewhat surprised at this discovery but recalled that in the year and a half I've owned the vehicle I hadn't perceived rear visibility thru the inside rear view mirror as obstructed.

My dealer confirmed that the middle headrest doesn't come out (on our '17). I wanted all three out so that the tarp we lay over the back seat for our dog would lay flat along the back seat rest.

Yes it does. My dealer removed mine on our '17 GLC300 Coupe and required a signature to remove liability for any result. As I recall, the back of the seat has to be opened to remove a locking pin or ring. Press your dealer to do a little more research.

While most of us wouldn't want or need to go to that much trouble, someone like northcoast that has a particular need will be glad to know this.
That's what's great about this forum!

Thanks
Once again, thanks for the additional input.

For those still interested in removing the rear center headrest, it can be done in about ten minutes.
Fold down rear center consul(the whole thing), black strip on either side of it has one star screw on either side.
Screw out, gently pry up the black plastic strip(starting at the screw end) and you will hear small snaps, all the way down, as the plastic strip comes out.
Do both sides and then the interior part of the consul will separate from the rear and expose the rails for the head rest. Small plastic clip on the driver side
guide rod. Snap the clip off and reassemble.
Now you can remove the headrest any time you want.
If anyone needs more detailed advice, PM me.
