Collison Alert

Once in a while the collision alert beep and red light comes on when there is nothing on the road. i want to say maybe once every 3 or 4 weeks if that which means it maybe happened a half dozen times or less in the 6 months i owned the vehicle. Tonight was twice within about 5 minutes

is this something to worry about? or normal for a system like that? was wondering if i should bring it up at next visit

or perhaps just the sensor is dirty? if so is it the large emblem on the front grille that should be cleaned or is this the one at the top of the windshield?

Do you recall what the topography is like where this happened?

There is one particular place that often activates the collision alert for me, and it's on a highway where a downhill grade ends abruptly. The GLC reads the flat portion of the road ahead as being a stationary object in front of it and sounds the warning. If I happen to approach it more slowly, the speed/distance parameters aren't met and the warning doesn't sound.

Maybe something similar is going on in your case?

A gaggle of MB's
The Collision Prevention system operates on the same frequency band as other "highway" related detection equipment - for example - traffic counters are no longer hoses running across the road - in my area my "bleeps" when passing those counters tucked in the weeds..

I was on the highway and it was pretty flat and open. on time i did notice coming around a turn and thought that perhaps as it was looking forward it saw the guardrail as possibly in the way before i made the turn

it was a quick one beep i think and the light blinked only very quickly.

appreciate your feedback, i guess given the nature of the system would not be unusual to once in a while false alarm... like when my wife alerts me to something that i dont consider to be a threat...

Our C300 would do the same thing and also defuel. Took it back to MB numerous times and they finally bought the car back. They had no clue why hers was doing it.

I have the same system in my 2016 GLC 300. Same scenario, multiple false warnings and some times braking...........until it was really needed. One month later and $6,610.59 I got my car back. After watching MB videos of how the system should function, warning sound & red light, seat belt tightening, brakes applied. None of this happened. My local MB dealer, I bought the car from, says every thing is working as designed. I am still getting false warnings, Soooooo What am I to do, something "aint" right.
Cheers

Call MB corporate as I did. They opened a case and finally bought it back.

Mine alarms once in a while. It doesn't bother me too much because I know these systems are driving aids and not scientific instruments. Sometimes I can see why it beeps, such as when going past a car that's parked too far from the curb or when going past a double parked truck.

The alarm and red light go off , every once in a while , never paid any attention until when leaving leaving the club house on a golf course a golf cart shot across the road in front of me, before I could respond the brakes were applied and suv stopped. Works for me.
